I tried rit dye on a small peice and it didn't work. Maybe I didnt have the water hot enough or didn't leave the plastic in the dye long enough.

Olen,
Rit dye works well, but you have to leave the piece in for longer than you think. Take it out from time to time and look at it until you get the amount of tint you want. May take many hours.

pmw is right, the dye does take a long time in some cases. Where you are working with plexiglass it will probably take longer then if you were doing a plastic canopy.
Another thing you might be able to use is the transparent paints that the car guys use. There are quite a few kinds to check out if you can get to a shop that carries them. ENJOY !!! RED

Use the transparent paint.
Some plastics will not take die no matter how long you soak it. Most that will take die will show coloration after a relatively short time.
