Default fox eagle 60

I just bought a used fox eagle 60, i took it apart to clean and I found that the front bearing is not a sealed one. Is it supposed be sealed or not? any help would be great.

Most of the big Fox's do not have seals or shields on the front bearing

that goes against the 2 stroke way, how does it run lean due to no seal? I always thought the crank had to be sealed? any tricks on setting the carb, it's not the air bleed one(i have low and high adjusting needles) thanks for the advise!

With Fox always start by opening up the high speed needle one full turn. then set the low speed, after that is set then tune the high speed. If you try it the other way the engine will never tune. Now the down side, if the weather changes from Sat to Sun. you have to do it all over again. Also you may need to add caster to your fuel. Fox engines were made to run on 20% caster

The crankshaft seal is done by the fit between the crankshaft and the crankcase. The seal or shield in the bearing has little to do with the air tightness of the crankcase

Ok, I got the engine running. It starts well and runs like a champ! I am using omega 10% castor/synthetic blend, I don't know how castor is in my fuel. What does it hurt to not run 20% castor? will it run hotter without castor? I've been told it leaves a vanish on everything?

Your engine will be fine

The all castor in the Fox engines is for the iron piston - steel sleeve engines with a bronze bushing for a crankshaft bearing

Your engine has a ball bearing crank, ringed aluminum piston. and steel sleeve

Enjoy your Fox engine

I use the Omega fuel. It has some castor oil

Cool Power fuel has no castor. I do not use it

interesting , but i think the bearings on my eagle 74 are better quality than the smaller foxes.
they dont seem to dry out like the 45 bearings
