The next time a neighbor gets carpet installed, borrow some of the trimmings.

I use bubble wrap. You can get it at Walmart or any moving supply company such as a U-Haul rental facility.

A fabric store or craft store might be a good option. Also, just keep your eyes open when you are out and about. I found a huge block of upholstery foam once just laying beside the road. I cut it up and used it for packing material and it lasted quite along time. You'll be surprised what might be sticking out of a dumpster or something. Sure you might feel like a bum grabbing it but what the heck, it's free.

Interesting you say that. I was at a craft store today and they had craft foam - in a million colors. I thought about whether or not it would work. It was only $10 but the sheet was huge. You would probably never have to buy any again....ever!!!

I went ot an upolstery shop and bought a 24"X24"block of 6" thick high density foam for $5. That should last forever.
