Default ws7II SPEC

I recentley bought one of these. i am yet to fit it but have a few queries

I bought this as was reccomended by my lhs as having lots of low and mid range. ideal for small twisty tracks.

I have read another post in this forum about these and other engines and basically they are saying that this engine is poor on the low and has lots of mid and top. They are saying that this is ideal for oval and large true 1/8 scale tracks?

Which is is small twisty and lots of low or large spacey and lots of top???

I have anodised 3pce clutch by HPI. would carbon be better? What advantage will this give me?

...and they are lighter and give a later engagement. just make sure the inside of the clutchbell in scuffed with about 200 grit sand paper or the shoes may slip a little too much and cause premature wear (melting).

Scuffing the bell will allow the shoes to wear prematurly though you will get an improved 'BITE' on take off. The 1.1 springs I agree with but the carbon shoes, I'm not sure about them, I prefer Mugen white shoes. But then it's down to driving style and I know I dont like the carbon shoes. Now Sliding clutches theres an idea for you. Or even a Centax. superb Bite and durability but at a price.

So the key to getting this stated good low and mid range is in my set up with shoes, springs etc?

What i would like to know is what sort of set ups people running with this engine. the set up below with 1.1 spring and carbon clutch seems to have mixed feelings. Is anyone running the 3pce anodised clutch with the WS7II and what they think of it.

Also would i get a better pick up with 2pce and where can i look up a sliding clutch??

I definitely dont recommend the sliding clutch...However the new Werks clutchs work awesome...and can adjust engagement with the simple turn of the nut.

And the WS7II will do great in any condition as long as you can tune the clutch to your needs....however..the RB's are more known for being great powerplants for Rally and onroad...THE WS7II makes more of an oval or rally motor than off road..but it fares well in any environment.

The problem with the WS7II is (if you want to call it that) is that is got an OK bottom end..nothing special...but it hits the midrange HARD..and I mean REALLY HARD...then kinda falls off on top. But not that bad...has decent top end power.

Pro's Using the sliding clutch?...Honestly..I said I dont recommend it...they engage wayy to early..and hit too hard...even with all three springs in and holes drilled out of each shoe to reduce weight..and 6 coils cut off of each spring...still to early, and too hard...

jeez i hope you like clutch slip that'll never engage fully!

i heard the best thing to do when using the white shoes was to lighten them like you have but then use .9 springs
that was direct from Stewart Wilcox the Mugen number1 in the UK

Honestly, I used to run that set up..and still do when all else fails..Mugen white, Almost cut in half, with Mugen 1.1 springs....My clutches engaged fully all the time.and slipped just the right amount to suit me.

which part of the shoes would i cut down. The alu ones i use do tend to slip when driving and turning corners slow. also hates grass, but i dont know what rating these springs are as didnt say on the pack or my lhs website. still quite new at this as seems to become more complicated the deeper i get into it. keeps the interest going i suppose.

do you know a link that will show me how to do this and where to cut or a shop website that sells mugen white and different rated springs, i will give it a try.

Also what sort of temps you running these engines at. Mines running top end at 95-100c (194-212f) depending on weather as normally run it slightly rich for safety and durability purposes. I have heard people running this higher but i have heard so many different responses from 110c-135c (230-275f) what is the specified running temp as rb website says nothing on this.
