Sportwerks Mayhem fuel tank trouble...Help!!
[]I've been running Nitros for years and never had this problem before. I bought a new Mayhem AAR with a .021. At first I thought the engine was just picky to tune. Every time I really romp on the brakes it stalls when I get back on the gas. I had my son make some runs with the body off and stop it hard right in front of me. Each time inertia slammed the fuel to the front of the tank and uncovered the fuel pick-up. You can see it pull air in the fuel line. When you try to take off again and bubble gets to the carb the car stalls. It does it even with 3/4 of a tank of fuel. It isn't stopping any harder than our other buggies and none of them have a problem. I dumped the tank and looked inside. The fuel pick-up baffles are only about 1/16 inch tall. My other buggy tank baffles 5-6 times taller and slant toward the back. If you don't ever hammer the brakes it screams. Short of changing the tank out with another brand and modifying the buggy so it will fit I'm left with trying to somehow glue taller baffles in the tank. I know I'll probably have to start with a fresh tank that's never had fuel in it before, but I don't know what kind of glue to use that the fuel won't eat up. Anybody have any suggestion?
With help from other "OH SO WISE ONES" it was a simple fix! A carb adjustment and a piece of new fuel line...Done!

Well, I guess I got shafted again my Horizon with my hobby store. I still have not received my Mayham yet. If I have the same problem, I will see if I can relate to your experience. As far as I see it, you may just have a defective tank.

Nurch,
If you ordered a Mayhem you made a good choice! Other than the fuel tank problem, which is fixable, it's one of the hottest buggies I've ever owned. After we set it up to run there wasn't any doubt that this car's a real contender! The ARR Pro for the price is going to be a hard act to follow. We got the ARR Pro with the .21 cause the .26 in the RTR Sport kit isn't legal at most tracks around here. The .21 also has better internal parts according to Horizon. You'll be happy you waited for it! We used a JR XM3 radio with a Dynamite Race Guard failsafe and it's sweet! We plan to buy another one next month if the wife gives us permission! Guess we've gotta be real nice to her! [sm=bananahead.gif]

I did, but the stalling issue was resolved in his opinion because of his tank. For me that seems an unlikely issue. I've noticed that when @ idle, if I do not increase the throttle, I can see fuel drop back into the tank, thus stalling. Should I mess with the idle set screw that I was told not to??

[sm=frown.gif]I'm not so sure it is the tank now! We had it out today flipped it. Took a while to get to it. I know the fuel pick-up was uncovered cause it was on it's top but it didn't stall. Later, on the first hard stop it stalled. I'm confused! Anybody got any ideas? Could it be in my tuning?

take the airfiter of{when its not running!!!} and turn the radio on and pull full brake.... the carb might close too much, also you might be lean on your bottom end

you know all this time all these posts and we never even thought of the most obvious stuff, if like me you can pick the car up by the airfilter and it doesn't shift (don't get too worried grahama i haven't actually tried because that would probably break it or split it, letting dirt in), just have it stationary and idling and pull the brakes

Thanks. I'll check it out and let you know. I'm wondering if the slider might be moving when I get on the brakes.
About your question earlier about "the most innovative buggy"...Don't know for sure. It stops on a dime, handles reeeeally well, and when my son (Who's a TURD) gets into it ppl around us start calling others over to watch it run. We're happy with it and a lot of the its stock parts would be hop-ups for other cars. We do need a second one though cause my son (TURD) always carries the Mayhem to his room when we get home. I'm still busting clods with my old T-Maxx.

It's fine with me! I turned 48 yesterday and he's a great boy...wouldn't change him if I could! Plus...truth...he drives circles around me.
