How do you know the engine is going in reverse. Do you gas it and the car goes in reverse? (I think that's what you're trying to say. It is almost impossible to have a glow engine going in reverse, specialy if the starter box is turning the other way (the right way). Open the engine, you probably find something wrong, although it is pretty rare! Does the engine start in reverse over and over (did you try starting it more than once? If you answer these questions then we can probably help ya, but I don't know.

its fine if thats what your saying you went to start it and it probily fired when it was almost at TDC and cause the engine to start backwards and if i tried it could do it in 1 try it isnt that hard to do like the other guy said dont take it apart its not broke i have done it before i did it just getting into nitro and the hobby shop and others said it was fine

you sure everything is put on right and not backwards, check all the connection to the starter box maybe the + goes to the - so it would spin it backwards. is the buggy on the right side?

What browney is saying is not nearly impossible I'm afraid ! i have done this several times on my hyper 8 port. This has happened to me when the battery runs low on the starter box and i was using a hot plug, i have been able to do this on my airplane two strokes aswell if started by flicking the prop with a chicken stick. If you keep that battery well charged up and make sure you make good contact with the starter wheel all should be well, its no big deal and don't worry about it.My hyper runs well and i have`nt had it happen in a while, maybe one of you technical type guys can give a better explanation of this. What im getting at browney is not enough power/momentum from the start box or bad contact with the wheel plus a hot plug and the piston coming to TDC possibly pre igniting the fuel (not sure about the pre ignition).

I think it might be because the engine started right at bottem end and somtimes that makes it run in revrese [:@]

so when you were breaking it in you could have been running in reverse the whole time.
i don't think it is the motor i think you have your diffs in the wrong way.

its rare but it does happen. its happened to me two times (on a bump box) and ive seen it happen to others as well. usually the engine will die or run poorly when you hit the throttle b/c the timing isnt set for reverse rotation.

LOL, its happened to me a few times. Nothing to worry about, simply stop the engine (stall it) and restart it up again. It can be quite amusing trying to drive your buggy in reverse.
Oh, ive got the cheapy hyper 7 engine so its not just the 8 port that does it

Yeah, i've done it a couple times with my pull start Traxxas Pro .15 engine and my pull start CEN .16 engine. Nothing's wrong with your engine, it just happens

Happened to my mach .15 pullstart. It was strange, I was like i didnt think my xxxnt had reverse. lol I think it happens when it the compression of the engine pushes the piston back down just as you take it off the starter box or release the pullstart and if you still have your glow stick on still it starts up and runs the wrong way.
Just a fluke i guess.

Engines with a functional PS (installed properly and has no defects) cant run backwards, even if your using a starter box.
The PS will engage and retract which immediately stops the engine.
Engines without PS can be started in reverse, but runs poorly.
Did you charge the SB battery between tanks, then hook the SB battery up backwards?
