I use a 12V single motor ultimately it leads to a bigger and heavy starter box, but for now it's the best torque option.

i used the box that came with my hyper 7pbs all of last year, but decided to order a 12 volt unit so that i know i won't have any issues in the spring. it was a $95 inusrance policy

I've just started using a 12v after 2 years of ones powered by stick packs and wish I'd switched sooner its definately the best box I've had.

This has been another one of the biggest misconceptions in RC. The dual 550 motors has the same torque as a single volt motor. The single volt just makes a little more RPM. You will need torque, and the 12v battery provides that with a big 7amps. Don't use the stick packs as they won't last that long. Just get yourself the gel cell, charger and enjoy yourself with many bumpstarts all day long. I use the Ofna 10th box to start my 10ths and 8th scales. It's very reliable if you use it properly.
