Default First buggy - recomendations please

OK, I've got an ancient Kyosho Nitro ZR-1 Corvette that was a great car 18 years ago. Unfortunatly, it's old and fragile now and parts are not easy to come by.
So, I've decided to get a buggy but I don't even know all that I don't know about what's avaliable. I want one that's pretty rugged, fairly fast (the faster the better really), nitro powered and 4 wheel drive and 2 speed would be nice (I think?). 1/8 scale is what I would like but 1/10 is not out of the question. I don't intend to race it, just play around the house and with some friends with trucks. If possable I would like to keep it at or under $250.00 but may consider spending more. Please help me out with recomendations for models to consider.
Thanks
Dave

It's gonna be hard to find a buggy for $250. A Used one maybe but not a new one.

I don't know about that. I've found 2wd nitro buggies RTR from $140.00 (Tower Hobbies branded), The Inferno TR-15 4WD FOR $192.00, Dura trax Evader for $189.00 and there are 2 or 3 others I've seen but cannot remember right now. I know that I'm not gonna get a cutting edge raceing buggy but that's not really what I'm looking for right now. I just want to get a decent, reliable buggy w/o spending a ton of money. I may do that later but right now I just want something to get started with and have some fun.

Wow, this put a twist to the age old question "what buggy should I get?" I don't ever think I heard the suggestion of a Dura Junk I mean Dura Trax

Hey, you guys are being real helpful.....NOT!!!
I clearly said what I was looking for and asked for suggestions. What do I get? Snide remarks! Just because I don't want to spend $600 - $1500 on this particular toy is no reason for smart alec replys. If I get one and like the sport, I'm perfectly capable and willing to spend what I need to in order to get top of the line. I'm not willing to dump a bunch of money into something that may bore me in short order. If you're not willing to help. fine, don't reply but right now you're sure not showing the best this forum has to offer.

i would say to buy second hand off ebay...

either Kyosho, Mugen, Ofna, Hot Bodies, Bergonzoni, GS, Thunder Tiger, or evne the PRP Swift

these are all good enough for bashing, and you may be able to get a more or less competitive racer too if you're lucky

Check out Acme condor pro on google. These are well in your price range, however they are usually slated on these forums. I will tell you why...for the same reason you were getting stupid remarks at the beginning of this thread...most people on this forum fall into one of two catagories people who know nothing and pretend to, and people who know something and are have loads of money to spend!!!

The people who know nothing will buy a cheap car and trash the engine because they dont know what they are doing and then slate it. The people sho know lots expect that everyone can afford the top of the range models.

I have an acme condor pro and it drives well. It will need the occational part but these are easily avaliable on 24 hour delivery. For the price (which includes the radio and servos and everything you need) you really cant go wrong.

It sounds like this would be perfect for you.

Hope I have helped you at last mate.

Adam_Fozz

PS Also try an ebay search for good deals on this car.

Hi Dave. Disregard those people. Your better off going 8th scale than 10th scale buggy. They are more durable and have a wider range of parts availability. Ofna has the LX Comp which is $300. http://www.ofna.com/ultralxcomp.html . It's really rugged, fast out of the box, and great for just beating around the house. I have the Hot Bodies Lightning RTR 1. It may not be as fast as the LX Comp, but it's also a pretty decent RTR. Craving a bit more speed out of the box, you'd probably want the LX Comp. It's just as complete as the HB RTR. Tower Hobbies is a pretty good place to order. Here's the link. http://www2.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin...?&I=LXGUS1&P=0 Let me know what other questions you have and I'll try to help you out. TTYL dude.

I thought this was a forum where anyone could give their opinions, if you want to waster your money on the LX comp do it, I would prefer to buy this:

Search item number 5959126066 on ebay

Yep Yep...Chex has the right idea...very good starter buggy...and WHEN the racing bug bites you, you will have a car that is race legal and a good platform to build on.

This is a very good example to show why you normally shouldn't buy used from Ebay.

Apparently 5959126066 is NOT a Hyper 7 but an older Ofna Ultra LX Pro or MBX Pro.

Go for the LX Comp - it can be found new for 270$

For a total Starter package then the Hyper 7 Yannick TQ RTR is OK. But a few more bux and the H7 PBS is in there. Both are aimed at begginers and the second coming WITH a starter box. Just get a high torque servo for the steering. But you'll need that servo for any buggy so they should be in your list too.

If you look at the way the body swoops over the rear shock tower it can only be an Ultra. And considering the tires it must be an Ultra LX Pro.

Either way the seller is dishonest.

Germ 74 (winner of auction) just bid on an item from a DISHONEST SELLER!

And since most items from dishonest sellers are POSs, therefore that item is a POS!

So Germ 74 bid on a POS.

That's definitely an Ultra judging by the body.

No Hyper 21 in that... probably a Force 25 or something...

Those tires look like they got ripped off a MT...

Thank you for all the suggestions, replys and discussions. From my experence on the boat and plane forums this is much more what I expected in the way of help. I will check out the ones that have been suggested so far and keep an eye on e-bay. If I see something there I will post it here for comment. Thanks again and keep the suggestions coming.

My un-experienced suggestion:

MP777 (Standard) $300 or Hyper 7 (TQ kit) $230 or so..
OS RG $110
Two 80oz Revo Servos of Ebay $25
Ofna Pirate Pipe $15
My AM JR XR2i w/RX $40
Starter box(this can hurt) $40-70
Starter bat $17

Then you can upgrade your car if you want to with racing parts and you have a decent setup to start. I'm not experienced but I tweak on planning stuff like this. You can't go wrong if you get something with decent resale value on ebay!

You are limited to your opinion. You are to post in a respectful manner, not diss other companies products, go on ranting on how good something is yet you never had it or did much with it, or flame anyone else ride that they have. He just want's something reasonable and for bashing. His budget is around $300. The LX Comp has that. I've ran one and tested it myself. It's a well built car.

So Germ 74 bid on a POS.

This looks as if it was thought out and written by a 5 year old. What a waste of webspace, just because the seller described it wrong doesn't make it a POS. The LX was made for bashing. That is why they were so bulky and cheap. The Hyper 7 on the other hand is a Race thoroughbreed isn it's Pro versions. But the bonus with the basic models in it's range is that they can all be hoped up to Pro Spec.

This is why I suggest the Hyper 7 to you. It fits in with your testing to see if you like it and if you do get serious then you can run the same buggy to race.
