Default Tire removal help?

Does someone know a trick for an easy way to remove 1/8 tires from dish rims after they were glued without damaging the rims?

Bake em.

Turn you oven on to 450 degrees. Place your tires on a cookie sheet, when oven gets to temp. Shut oven off and place tires in oven. Let them stay in there for 45 minutes or so. After this time the CA should be crystakized and you can pop the tires right off.

Depending how well they are glued, you might have to do this twice, but rarely this happens

boil the wheels and tyres for 5-10 minutes in a pan of water...

The tyres will then pull off the rims easily...

i have found that baking them workes the best and fastest. i put the oven to 350, and then put the tires on tin foil on a cookie sheet. I leave them in there for around ten minutes or until it is easy to take them off the rim. it should just peel off.

...then grate some parmasan cheese over them and serve with pasta and a nice white wine (Australians are in season right now).

I'd go with just boiling the tyres, I do and it does just take 20 mins tops and you dont get that molten rubber smell throughout the house/street.

Thanks all, I am really concerned about the smell of rubber in my house. My wife will kill me... If boiling does the trick without the odor then that’s the route I will take. If baking them works but, with odor I can’t afford the wife coming home and saying you destroyed the oven with that burnt rubber smell.

Thats why I boil rather than bake

Wife would crucify me if I trashed her brand new Bosch oven

A gallon of Acetone--$8
A 2 gallon bucket w/tight fitting lid--$2
Letting the wheels soak overnight and the tires fall right off the next day while keeping my RC stuff all out of the house so the wife can't complain--Priceless

what does the acetone do to the integrity of the rubber? anything? I just mounted up some brand new crime fighters but screwed one of them up, so i want to remove the tire and re-mount it, and i certainly do not want to compromise the quality of the rubber .

Is it possible to use the cooking solution when the tyres and the rims are to be reused?

Check this out, I just bolied some pre-mounted Medials. Came with the bright yellow rims, and I dyed them black. Turned the stove up to 6 and let them simmer for 20 minutes. Glue is still totally in tact and strong as it was before. only problem was that the dye wouldn't soak in wherever there was tire glue close to the bead, so I had to do some very minor touching up with a sharpie. Here's some pics of the results...

The acetone swells up the rubber, but after the rubber out-gasses the acetone, it seams to return to its normal shape and textute. I've never tried to reuse tires after so I can't say for sure. I usually cut most of the tire off the rim before I soak them. Either way the foams will get wasted.
