not only compatible price but some change on the design, this change is probably better than its big brother, something are really looked cheap (ie, engine mount), or weird (ie, chassis brace), universal shaft changed to CVD, 3mm thick shock tower instead of 5mm as expected, don't know why emphasis on the bearing quality, no o-ring for differential bevel gears to reflect the practical,

i took mine back out this wk and the car handled very well. i dont see how antone can justify that they swell and cause resistance? i couldnt see the diff and i will most likely put them back in. there is NO real PROOF that they are inconsistant? it is all hearsay and they tell you to use them for a good reason im sure. the people who build these bugs know wayyyyyyy more than we do.

Umm...There IS proof that they cause inconsistencies in the way the diff reacts. It has been posted by Hudy Huraj himself on the Xray forums. It is alos the people who build these buggies who are telling the users not to use the o-rings if they are experiencing said issues. If you are not noticing a difference that's you.

ya and this is being said by someone who couldnt even tune a XB8? YOU..... im sorry man but you didnt even give it a chance and cant reply to something that you dont experience yourself. w/ the o-rings being in their groove on the spider gears they dont push out like some people think.

Couldn't tune? Or didnt want to waste time tuning? Actually I sold that car(XB8) just to cash out- let other people do the leg work- and run an already set-up car (My 777's) in the meantime. I only paid $530 for the thing- and ended up selling with the motor and all parts for a little over $990- I MADE Money! And kept the tools!!
As for the diff o-ring issues. I noticed them right off the bat- that was one of the first things I took out of the car- and it got better- but not good enough.
I messed with the set-up for a few weeka and then just got tired of it. Since then I have bought myself another XB8- and it is dialed- but my 4 777's are still more fun to drive. Each with different set-ups! Only time I really drive the Xray is on the Wet- High Traction tracks. That's the only place it shows its true colors IMO.

if the XB8 gives its price high, then i would say to get an XB8R at the price as zzman told and replace both shock towers, the engine mount and torque braces, this can be better and cheaper than an original XB8

Universal shaft may be better as far as it looks more like real shaft
, but I got no problem on the CVD shaft of my MBX5 except that the small pin connected to the cup is worn out.
The turnbuckle is the same as on XB8 that mario may have not yet figured out any solution

I took some pictures of the first XB8R in Switzerland and put them on my website: http://www.h-trainer.ch.vu/hp_xray.html

Alex, the car is completely stock excepted the springs. So yes, the XB8R has the softer, longer suspension arms.
I would NOT say that the XB8R is "by far less durable", it's just not as fancy. My friend's car has survived more than 7 liters (~2 gallons) of abuse on the track and hasn't shown a weakness yet.
The engine mounts and shock towers do their job just as well as the expensively-machined XB8 parts. Yes, some might even say the XB8R is better and this is likely to be true for some tracks. If not, why would the Xray upgrade kit for the European Championship include the softer arms and composite braces?
Time will tell if the composite suspension blocks are tough enough.
