Hey all,
Again, I am a RC noob.
I am just about through breaking in my Mayhem RTR, and I have a throttle control issue.
It seems to me that I have no "middle" to my throttle. The car idles fine. Then, when I apply even the smallest amount of throttle on the radio, it seems that the engine goes from idle to full-out throttle. THere is no mid-throttle at all.
Its as if my throttle is a light switch--either all-on or all-off, no in-between.
Anyone know what adjustments I can make to the radio or the engine? I know this isnt right....

Turns out it was my radio. The throttle deadband setting was too high. I am sure that I put it there while i was checking out the radio/servo response.
Setting the deadband too high results in no fine control of the throttle. This was not apparant to me in the instrutions. I thought it eliminated that space that you move the throttle and NOTHING happens, which it did.. but, set it too high and you take out all the middle throttle.
Like I said, I am a noob. I'm actually not an idiot though (generally speaking)--I think though that these instructions are designed for those that have some experience with RC cars and radios.... Would have appreciated more noob-friendly instructions.
Thanks though!

Deanwvu,
Do you read all the forum of Mayhem? I sent in the pass someting about this problem with pix.
I can ask you some questios:
1.- When you turn on the car. the car is move or not?
2.- Take off the air filter and tell me how many space you have in the carb in the neutral position.
3.- When you press the braked the motor is OFF?
PS, I agree with you, the manual is more for some experience people. I read the manual more than 100 time and now more of the manual I begin to understand. In my opinion the manul is no really complete, cannt nclude a lot of basic point.

Allow me to intercept this one...
1) If your car wants to move when yuo turn it on, your clutch springs are not wokring properly (not likely), or your idle is too high.
2) Should be about 1mm, give or take .25mm
3) If you mean your engine stops when you press the brake, then your clutch is having a problem or your idle is too high, just like answer to question 1.
If I've understood correctly your reasons for asking...

It didnt idle high (i dont think so). At least, the clutch did not engage. Its just when I applied throttle (from radio) it went from idle to FULL OUT--with no middle throttle at all. That problem I have figured out.
I have noticed one weird thing about my idle--and I've been fiddling with it a bit. It seems that when the engine is cold, and I start, idle is good.
But, after I run it a few minutes, and the engine warms up, I bring it to a stop (usually to check the temp cause I am paranoid), THATS when the idle seems too high, sometimes engaging the clutch and rolling forward slowly. If I kill the engine, wait a bit, and restart, idle goes back to normal. Also, when I read the temperature, it wasnt too high--maybe around 200 deg F.
I am not at home so I cant check that carb gap till later...

My friend:
Mmmmmm....you talking about two problem.
1.- You dont have a no middle throttle.
You need to adjust the blue throtle position
I dont have the pix in this comp..is in my home. Let me find it and I'll send it to you and you can check if you have the same like the pix.
2.- the engine warms up
I have exactly the same problem like you in the past. And I receive a litter answer but they cannt fix the problem.
Do you know another reason the motor warms up quickly?
The motor try to move, but something in the clutch cannt give them move freely.
Please check the centr of diff is move freely and the clutch.
You dont have problem with the idle.....because they cant warms up engine quickly than the clutch can move freely.

When you press the brake and the carb close too much (cannt give a lot of air to enter) and the motor stop? Wath is the problem.?....the clutch!!!!.....of course the answer is not...maybe i'm wrong.
I only try to help him.....but you make more confusion. My question number 1, he cannt answer yet...and you answer for him......mmmmmmm that is great help. [
]Please let him answer the three question and you and me can discharge the posibility.
