I have an Ofna LX Pro basher and the clutch bell has worn out and no longer connects with the spur gear. Do I only have to replace the clutch bell, or is it a good idea to replace the spur gear at the same time? I saw a titanium(?) clutch bell on Ebay--is it worth the extra $ to get one of these instead of the stock ones, i.e. will it last much longer?
Also the stock clutch bell was 14T, if I replace it with a 13T would I notice much difference in low/top end?

14T is the most common bell on the race scene, the Titaniun spur aint worth it and this time set the mesh up correctly.

What's involved in setting up the mesh correctly? Is it supposed to be a tight fit? There really isn't any room to adjust anything is there?

Ya, setting the clutch bell gear too far away from, or even too tight against--the spur gear will wear it prematurely. I JUST now found this out the hard way. I had mine too far from the spur gear and I now need a new clutch bell too.
I heard they are supposed to be tight (so they dont slip past one another), but have a small amount of play. I used a piece of paper to set mine (wedged a piece of paper between the spur and the clutch bell gear). Apparantly I either moved it before I tightened the motor mounts, or I used a piece of paper that is too thick.
Thats one thing no one ever states--how THICK of a piece of paper should I use??? I cut a slice of a post-it--is that paper too thick stock??
Thanks!

A normal piece of paper normally does the trick.
But it's a question of getting the feel for the correct mesh. When you set it to tight, you can easily feel the added resistance when you roll the car. Then it's just a question of making a tiny (very tiny) movement of the engine until the resistance isn't that big.

This is all good information to know--thanks! I'm not even sure that I need to replace the clutch bell just yet, as shifting the motor mount a little closer to the spur gear may allow me to get some additional use from my existing clutch bell...afterall they aren't cheap!

if the clutch bell doesn't move freely after doing the trick with one sheet on paper, use two sheets instead of one. it will set the clutch a bit further apart

That's top advice there from MM, no sarcasm intended. It's better to fold a sheet of photocopy paper in half (so it's like two sheets) for nitro engines, for electrics, only 1 sheet. To answer dean's post, yes, 1 post-it is too thin!
