The XRay XB8R is, as all the Xray kits, an engineering marvel which goes together beautifully.
Why then, is the body such a poor fit? The exhaust cut out is in the wrong place (and not just a little!!). The engine head cutout is not perfect (out with the dremel! [>:]). And the worst thing of all, which almost ruins the buggy in my opinion...The throttle linkage has to come through the body...GRRRRRrrrrrr, that makes me so angry. Check out photo. If I did something wrong, or there is an alternative solution to carving up the body, please let me know.

Manual clearly shows linkage placed on top of servo horn, and would not be straight (in line with throttle) if placed underneath. I'm not an idiot you know, I've been building models for 18 years. First thing I tried when fitting the body was relocating the throttle linkage. It does not work in any other position. Maybe the engine mounts are too tall, therefore the carb is too high (but I doubt this is the case, cos flywheel contact is perfect with starter box). Also, the pic is an XB8, not an XB8R. Assuming also that this is a factory pic and not based on your own experience? Welcome any other suggestions you might have tho'...as long as you can control the patronising tone. I will play around with the linkage a bit more tonight and see what I could have done differently. You have made me doubt myself tho', so I'll double check. Will happily admit it if I got it wrong.
Pipe position, check other thread (pics of my xb8r), I'm not so bothered about that though, as I understand they have to cater to all different pipes, and mine is long 'cos it's a low ender.

Dude, relax, it took me 30 seconds to find that picture on X-rays site. Sure looks like it works there. Maybe if you'd have asked this question before you broke out the dremal your body wouldn't be hacked up, and you wouldn't be upset and bashing Proline.
Did you try rotating the carb barrel link down?
Also, I believe that body is the same for the MBX-5,, It's been my understanding Proline doesn't make one special for the xb8. I might be wrong, but if that's true you should be upset with x-ray for using what ever the can get their hands on, not Proline
p.s. I don't see a problem with the pipe cut out, at least I can't tell from your picture

try the new crowdpleaser 2.0...make sure it's the newer mold as there is a small raised bump for the linkage to sit behind.....I had to hack my original body out too......the carb on my P5 wasb't lining up smooth enough to run it under the arm.....also make that hole WAY bigger then it needs to be...as the body starts egging out the holes for the mounts it slides back and forth...that linkage barrel stop got hung up on my body a few times.....once went flying over a wall and landed right in MY pit area at WOT.....I lay a towel down and it hooked up right on the towel after jumping some 15-20 ft to land on the table......what a PITA.....I also took epoxy and made that sharp corner onthe barrel have a bevel so it's harder to hook on the body........and you're right Proline doesn't have a specific body for it yet.....but I think JD racing or Majestic do.....the Majestic seems to be the body of choice from the Xray guys.....I haven't tried those yet though

I like these bodies... [link=http://www.jconcepts.net/]http://www.jconcepts.net/[/link]
I've used one on my old Hyper 7, it's sweet. I'm going to get one for my Sp-2.
Here's the X ray ones.

You should see my 9.5 Pro body. I have two different holes for carb adjusting, because Cipolla and Rossi mount their carbs funny. My current engine is an OS RG which has the smallest cooling head known to man, compared to the Cipolla engine I had before it which was huge. So now I have a giant hole, with a tiny little cooling head (hole is at least twice the size of the RG cooling head). Also, I had a short Team CRC tuned pipe, which is now replaced by a jumbo whale (aka Jammin JP-2). So my pipe cutout in the body measures like two inches (so does the chop in my sideguard).
Moral of the story: the body fits the car perfect, at least until you modify the car. Don't worry about asthetics. Kick someones ass with your swiss cheese body and they will copy its ugliness(not that your buggy body is ugly) thinking its a performance advantage. Then you can stare at the starting line a couple weeks later and laugh at the startling lack of lexan surrounding you.

Well, I owe everyone, especially proline and 'had enough' an apology. It seems I am an idiot. End of story. The manual also clearly shows the throttle linkage UNDER the servo horn as per the pictures (thanks 'had enough'). I have absolutely no idea how that escaped me. I am so precise when following instructions that I couldn't believe that that would be the mistake. Another lesson about building kits into the early hours of the morning...
Secondly, the reason it didn't seem to work under the horn was because I hadn't adjusted the rotating ball end on the carb (90deg towards the chassis). The linkage is now well below the required height. Duh....
I truly am an idiot, and thank everyone for being kind.
My apologies to XRay and Proline.
I like the look of the JConcept body, have to get one.
God, I'm so embarrassed when I read those first 2 posts. I think I'm going to hide.
