Default Please help Explaining some stuff to me..

I'm looking to buy a Hyper8 Buggy and a Spektrum 3-channel radio. The only thing i dont understand is the whole starter box thing.

1.) What kind of engine do i need to get that will allow me to use the starterbox?

2.) Which starter box will i need if i'm mainly looking at .28's for a hyper8?

3.) Do i need to buy battery packs for the starterboxes? Or do they usually come with them?

4.) Can I use a peak charger to charge them?

Any input would be appreciated guys.

1. Doesn't matter. Any engine can be started with a box, as long as it has a proper flywheel that can be reached by the starter box.

2. Ofna's chrome top starter box is what i've seen recommended the most, especially for motors with a tight pinch.

3. Depends on the box. Some use a 12V Gel cell, some will use 6cell stick packs.

4. Depends on the battery type, and charger you have. A few peak chargers will do gel cells, but most won't.

Awesome idea on upgrading with a starter box from the get go... After you get away from pull starters, it's near impossible to want to go back. Gerwen had the right answers, so no reason to reiterate there.

.28 will be good if you are bashing, if you want to hit the track, I would stick with a race legal .21. One thing you may or may not know is these buggies are much lighter and much faster then an MT. They don't need the monster displacement engines that the trucks do. They are rockets.

A 21 will give you better mileage to boot, and the difference between a good 21 and 28 isn't as big as you would think. Just food for thought.

keep in mind that you need an engine without a pullstart/rotostart for a bump-box, i think bad stuff would happen if you tryed starting a roto/pullstart engine with a bumpbox. correct me if im wrong people.

Common misconception. Pull start and roto start engines have a one-way bearing. This bearing allows the shaft to spin without moving the start mechanism. If they can run without wrecking the mechanism, they can be started with a starter box no problem.

*edit* if you managed to try starting it backwards, either through reversed connections to the motor, or using the box backwards, bad things might happen to your pull start though.
