Default Which engine has the best price/performance/durability?

Which one worth every cent you think?

(P.S.: I haven't listed STS D21T since it's extremely undurable and untunable from my experience...)

My vote was for the WS7II mine currently has 8 gallons through it and it still can't be turned over by hand. Some poeple say it lacks on the bottom end grunt but I have not had a single problem clearing any set of jumps with a short run up. I can do it the same as every other car on the track. Where this engine shines is on the top end.... It's awesome to watch it reel in another car down a long straight. I have recently switched the WS7II into my Revo and started running a C5BB in my buggy... This thing is almost too much power to be honest... I had to order a 7mm venturi just to keep the power manageable.

Anything from RB will be outstanding, I have been racing their motors since 2002.

OS big blocks (of the V series) don't tend to last too long and have a trend of bearing and connecting rod failure. I used to race them until I found RB and now won't ever look back.

Novarossi P5x's have outstanding power and seem to require little in the way of tuning having raced against them a lot but I have never owned them. I seem to stay neck and neck with them on the straights though with my unmodded RB S72 so they do have good power but not to the point of uncontrollable.

I have no experience at all with the sirio motors other than what I have heard and it was rediculous power but not to great on reliability and tuning.

For cheap and fun, nothing beats an OS RG with a Nova head though.

For best price alone I would definitly have to say the RG motor. At $109 dollars how can you beat it for a cheaper scale motor.

However for Performance and Durability I am going to have to go against the grain and say the RB S5. This is not saying its the best motor out there by any means, but for the trifecta asked above, this would be my choice.

For one, at my local track there are a couple of people that run them and do very well with them. The low end power works great on our small track. Now they are starting to sell new for $199 compared to the $250-$265 they were recently priced at.

To really race the RG you will definitly want to put a cooling head on it which will now put you in the 170-180 area. The RG is a solid motor, but due to the small cooling fins it does run hot. Now you are looking at 180 for the RG compared to 200 for the S5.

Thunder Tiger pro .21 is a great engine for the money $119 at amainhobbies, blows the rg away and tunes just as easily.I have a couple RGs a C6bb (to much power for my track, way overkill), and the TTR .21 The TTr is a good compromise between the two, it runs almost like the discontinued OS RZ motor(one of the best motors ever IMHO). Good luck with whatever you choose.

IMO< most def. the RG21,w/ Jammin jp1 pipe, this motor will last you FOREVER, it is perfect for sportsman class racing, hold's a tune period. if you get good enough not to crash, you will see that you dont need all that power, most of the time you cant get the big powerful motors to hook up till the straight aways,my 11 yr. old son runs xray xb8 tq, os rg 21 jp1, in sportsman class , rarely crashes, and finishes top 3 every race.[sm=punching.gif]

If you decide on the RG, try running the 086 pipe. I was surprised at the performance with the high end pipe.

I agree with you that the S5 is a great engine!!!! And in a lot of cases the power of the high end engines goes unused unless you are a very very good driver. I have had many RB's and I recently got my first S5 and man I love this engine!!! It has a great bottom end with a smooth power delivery!!! The top end is not quite what I am used to with the WS7 and C5's but really it's not very often you put all of the top end to good use.

Honestly if you want a good motor(not saying all the others mentioned are not good). I would suggest the P5X. It has very usable powerand good duability. I have 8 gallons through it and I can't turn it over by hand. Jp1 pipe goes good with it ,although I just purchased the JP3 pipe , and it might like that one too.BUT I also just put a gallon of fuel through the IRC Radical 621P motor, and I would have to say that I like it better than the P5X. It has more bottom end than the P5X and the same top end of a 421B. Im gonna see how it works with the JP 3 pipe.Im sure it will like it. later

PS Both engines were modded by RB Mods. Rick really knows what he is doing. If I were you I would go with an RB Mod. Check out his website.

In my humble opinion, all of the big power, high dollar motors , do the average hobbiest no good , only if your into following the series and racing all over the country trying to get picked by a sponser, do you need all that power. most people I see with these 3-400 dollar motors cant drive in a straight line, spin out all the time.Power doesnt always mean speed. I can get all the power of my RG to the ground, which makes my car go straight FORWARD, when others are skateing all over the track. Most people dont have a clue what throttle control is. Dont crash, use throttle control to make it hook up, and watch and see how much faster you get.
