If I were to get a RTR for bashing around the neighborhood what would you guys suggest? What would hold up best and require the least amount of up-keep? Also bearing all of this in mind I want the best bang for buck here.
Thanks..
P.S. Might race one day, but want something I don't invest a grand in first just to see if I want to take the hobby to the next level.

I have a MP 7.5 sport. Ran into a wal at about 40+ mph and nada, then clipped a wall with my front axel at the same speed and still gtg. When trunned right it runs like a bat out of hell and i am looking at all the hop ups out there and i could take it to compation lvl if i chose to. Like you i just needed alittle speed and a little bashing, but it's nice to know i could get it to pro lvl if i want to. I can do a paying alittle over time, though it will add up, girlfriend can see me spended 30-40 bucks here and there than $800 in one haul.

if your going to go cheap, then go dirt cheap, the absolute cheapest you can find. that way when you decide to upgrade you wont loose too much money. because r/c's will only sell for about 1/2 what you paid for them, and thats if they are still in great shape.
EDIT: also as for upkeep they all require pretty much the same amount.

CEN Matrix is a awesome buggy. Its pretty much the best RTR buggy for $400-450 with a nice Airtronics FM radio. I love mine as its very durable and such as solid performance buggy. Easiest buggy to drive around the track an the FM radio will save you $150

don't go cheap you'll be dissapointed. I have a x-ray xb8tq With a RB C5 Rody been bashing all summer or when I have time, 1.5 gallons. Have a BIG ramp and other obsticles and at the track lots of open area with numerous jumps I have also had a lot of bad crashes, this x-ray is no shelf queen. I'll give you a list of what i've broken.

I'd look into a 9.5 MBX...Very strong, and should provide alot of fun for its owner. You will want to upgrade the radio and servo's as soon as you can afford to though...

I own multiple buggies, and the toughest buggy period out there for bashing is the hyper 7 pbs. Toughest race winner is the Mugen mbx5 due to the pbs, and the higher quality plastic mugen uses.
With front and rear pbs on the ofna hyper 7, its a beast. I have 5 foot skate jump, that I hit going about 50. It shoots the car about 18 ft in the air and about 60 feet long. I do front flips, back flips, barrel rolls and rarely break anything.
I think I have bent a rear dogbone (because I lost the nut between the chassy brace and the wing stays) and I have broken like 2 front pbs balls.
I really should post the video.
Whatever you get, if your gonna bash, get smething with a PBS front end and youll save a lot of down time. C hubs stear a little better, but they break easier.

I 2nd the 9.5.... or you could pick up a Ravager which is the 9.5 with some updates. I believe they can be had at Tower for about 339.
On ebay they can be had for just over 300. The .28 in the ravager is a pretty stout mill from what I have seen. It seems to be a fuel hog though.

You may have chosen your buggy already but you might want to pick a buggy that you can get parts local. Even the most duraable will break at the most in opportune time.

the best research u could do about finding the right buggy is:
1)budget
2)parts availability
3)price of replacement parts
most bang for your buck as a rtr...prolly cen matrix.....my first was a ultra comp spent more time on the bench than on the track, next i had a ofna worlds 2 a little better put a hyper rear arm and big bores great car, next mbx5 durable heavy and diff seals wear fast now caster zx 1 pro not broken yet....oh yeah if it can b broken i can break it.....and thats the truth
