Default Starting with a mugen

hey guys.
i just started getting into racing and have been told i am pretty good. i race my GT2 right now but want to get into buggies.
now, ive never actually driven a buggy yet, but that will change pretty soon.
ive been doin some research and was thinking about trying to pick up either a Mugen MBX5R on ebay, or a Hyper 7. im also open to any other suggestions, but would it be a bad idea to start with a Mugen?

thanks

the mugen is a great buggy!! the hyper is a little easier to drive, but the mugen wins in my books over the ofna anyday...

If i can find a nice Losi 8ight on ebay for reasonably cheap, should i go ahead and get that?
or should i stick to trying to find a Mugen?

I had both the 8ight and RC8...the 8ight lasted about a week and I havent looked back with the RC8...IMHO if I had to choose I would take the RC8...

I HAD A MBX PROSPEC AND NOW I HAVE A RC8. THE MUGEN IS ALOT EASIER TO DRIVE. IT JUMPS REALLY GOOD AND TENDS TO CORRECT ITSELF WHILE IN THE AIR. UNLIKE THE MUGEN THE RC8 IS THE LIGHTEST BUGGY OUT THERE. IT WONT REQUIRE A REALLY EXPENSIVE ENGINE TO GET IT MOVING WHICH IS REALLY NICE. ITS HARDER TO DRIVE BUT WHEN YOU GET USED TO IT THE RC8 IS A WHOLE LOT OF FUN AND WONT EVER GET BORING. ALSO THE NEW TECHNOLOGY THAT WENT INTO THE RC8 MAKES IT VERY VERY EASY TO WORK ON! YOU'LL SEE ALOT MORE IMPROVEMENTS AND FEATURES IN THE RC8. THE MUGEN IS A VERY GOOD BUGGY TOO.ONE OF THE MOST DURABLE IN THIS SPORT TODAY AND PROBABLY ALWAYS WILL. I ALWAYS HAD MUGENS AND SPENT ALOT OF TIME ON THE TRACK AND NOT IN THE PITS DUE TO ITS DURABILTY. SO DO YOUR RESEARCH AND FIGURE OUT WHAT YOU THINK WILL SUIT YOUR NEEDS. BEING A BEGINNER I WOULD PROBABLY CHOOSE THE MUGEN. I HOPE THIS HELPS!

I run a Thunder Tiger EB4-S3, and I can tell you that it's a great buggy, simillar to a mugen, but alot cheaper, and tough as nails. It may be a bit heavier, but imo it helps with the handling. You can probably pick one up really cheap too on ebay or something, and Amain has em for under $400.00. Make sure you can get parts, they can be hard to find locally sometimes which is why it's not the most popular buggy out there, cause it sure is one of the best. 2006 world champion!!

Mugens are class buggies.
The 8ight is the buggy of the moment.
I would say the mugen has the edge on quality over the 8ight though both are perfectly good racers.
If it was my money i'd get the mugen

I heard that the 8ight's were a bit on the delicate side, that they are more of a finnesse machine, but they're fast. Mugen would definately be a better biginner machine since it will take lots more punishment. But I still vote for TTR S3!

The S3 kit is $260.00, similar to the mugen.

I hear people say the 8ight is fragile, and its just totally not true.

Mugen or the Losi are a good pick,

But Id go with the Losi.

I was just watching the Nationals,

I don't recall a mugen in the group of 10 if it was it did not do well top 5. Losi was 2 of the top 3 and had more entries than any other brand. Rc8 was there don't think they had a top 5 finisher. However anyone saying mugen is not tough as nails is crazy thats an excellent buggy so is the Losi. If your choosing between Losi and Mugen you can't go wrong. Not necessarily in this order Losi, Mugen, Associated and Xray are all of equall quality each has an advantage over the other. No matter what buggy you speak of they all have there promotors and detractors. The difference comes down to the driver. Lucky for you, you are in a win win situation.

I'm jealous that you that you have a choice between these 2 and glad for you at the same time. If it were me I would go with the one that my LHS carries parts for. Not that there subject to breakage. Its cool when you can get good face to face advice about your buggy not to mention they will probally will have hop ups in stock. Pick one and have fun there both great buggies.
