Alright im going to order a buggy from amain next week and im just calculating how much it will cost...
I live in canada in ontario and am ordering form amain so i found how much everything will cost in us dollars because the canadian dollar is lower...
But how do the duties work???Because i ordered a boat from warehousehobbies in i think florida and i had to pay 350 dollars in duties!!!!
Will i have to pay duties if i order a car and some other stuff from amain???The total will be around 1500 dollars!
Can you please tell me how the duties work!
Thank you so much!!!I love amain but i hate paying duties that i don't see coming!

Duties come from your side of the fence. They want you to buy from Canada so thats what they do. There are many stores LHS and on line stores in Canada that have RC product, I would be inclined to buy from there............parts I ship to Canada I put a very low price on them so the duty is very small or non existant. You got to use the system not let it use you [X(]

what rclynx said is true, but many times the seller is tight and puts the high amount no matter what.alot of the time the even if u request them to put a lower price they wont do it so finding someone to do it may be difficult.amain is going to put the full amount on the duties.thy this site.absolutehobbyz.com this dude may work with you and im sure he will beat an amain price.

If you will order an RC kit across the border, in this case AMAIN, you willbe paying taxes (federal and provincial)which is equivalent to 13% plus dutiesofx%, plus brokerage fees (depends on the courier, example from UPS is CA$ 25 per invoice) orCanada Post handling charges of CA$ 5.00 per invoice. Here is a brief summaryfor yourreference purposes.
Say I will buy aHot Bodies D8 1/8 Off Road Buggy Kit
PriceUS$339.00
Shipping to Canada US$ 25.00
Total Purchase Price 364.00
Price of the kit in CA$
(multipliedby the US$ to CA$ exchange rate) 386.46
Add : Duties (say 5%) 20.00
GST/PST 50.24
Brokerage Fee (say UPS) 25.00
Grand Total in CA$ 481.70
I am not too certain if this item is considered as a DUTY FREE item, I guess we have to consult Canada Border Services if this is indeed a Duty Free item. I usually purchase parts from Hong Kong and the USA, but I limit my maximum amount of purchases so I will not be able to pay the corresponding DUTY/GST/PST and Canada Post Handling fee.
To compare the overall cost if purchasing an item abroad, check the price of that same item from your LHS, do some calculations and you can compare the bottomline cost. In my case, I would prefer to purchase it abroad, saves me extra dollars, however, waiting time could be longer or shorter.
Sometimes, I negotiate the final pricing from my LHS if I don't want to wait for a long period oftime since my LHS can bring in the item in 7 calendar days considering it is IN-STOCK from their supplier (Horizon Hobbies), otherwise, I purchase it from an on-line seller from Hong Kong or from the popular on-line auctions.
I hope thiswillhelp as your reference, just my $ 0.02
