Hi Guys
People ask all the time what a ported engine looks like, if you have any pics of a ported engine or even your own poring work here is the place to show it off ! :D

Looks like Maxy's dremel slipped and he caught the bottom of your crank.

I'm sure Rick will take a look at this topic. I'm waiting to see what he has to say.

I've got a maxy modded Berg XR he did for me to run in a monster truck. It pulls like a freight train and never stops accelerating on the back straight at Boggy Creek. I don't know where it will top out as i've never been on a track with enough room to find out. Needless to say, I don't use it that often.

fhm101, I will be at the Maxy race this year, Look me up and bring your engine with you and let me take a look at it, Maxy is a great guy and we talk together every once in a while through Bobby Moore. I will not cut down a fellow modifiers cuts, but i will help you get back some of your velocity that has been lost. The Berg is a great engine and if your having a problem with spooling to the top i can help there and maybe i can help spark a little love back for your engine. There is a Velocity imbalance between your crank and sleeve that has to be fixed. Rick

why would the motor need to be modded more if he thinks its fine?

Like he said to get a little more love for the engine. If he's not using it that often maybe Rbmods can make it so he would use it more. Thats what I would think, but then again you don't care what I think.

The only velocity imbalance in this engine is between my skill and the awesome power it produces. Step away from the pipe Rick, I love my engine. When I said it never stopped accelerating I was referring to the fact that it just keeps on making power while the other guys are peaking. Think a very linier Berg Rallygame (no lightswitch here) with more bottom and a standard plug. The reason I don't use it very much is because it's way too much engine for the average track I run on. Maxy warned me it would be a handful when I asked him for the billy bad A. He tried to bang some sense into my thick skull, but to no avail. In short, Maxy is THE MAN when it comes to the best modded engines I've ever seen. You tell him what you want and he delivers exactly what you ask for. From as simple as more run time with the same power, all the way up to the most insane beast you ever strapped on, Maxy can make it happen. BTW, just kidding about the pipe ;~)

My Bad, No harm intended. Just thought you meant it wasn't getting up to the speed you wanted fast enough. I have worked the Crono/ Berg line over in depth and when the ports have been cut in that fashion like the on road Nova Rossi's it increases the port volume but decreases the velocity. I work in the reverse since you can always get to much fuel by needling so i get the speed by increasing the velocity and speeding up the crank. Hence better economy and faster Engine with a smooth transition on the finger. I'll tuck my tail between my legs now and go set back in my corner. LOL

Possibly, But why does it bother you?
I think al of you little children need to get off Ricks **** about his mods. Yea he might do great work, but kissing his a** isnt going to get you a free mod job. For me personally the second he or one of his chronies posted some stupid claims of 55,000 RPMS and 5.5 HP on his website and SGRID mine along with a hundred others bullsh** radar went off the charts. It isnt even possible, no one even knows if the motors we run today make 1 HP. It's all relative and to add to that- he doesn't even DYNO his own engines. He sends them away to get this done. Yea he might do AWESOME work, but come the ____ on.

Such negativity, Does anyone else feel it? Why are all your comments on all threads negative? Second i don't believe in dyno's my self, Too many variables.

I second Shivas's notion....

Rick: Then why did one of your people say that you get your engines dynoed on a prop dyno in California?

RBMods 10-22-2004 11:36 PM

RE: Official Porting Pics Thread

I don't know, Sometimes when a person buys a engine off me they may have a dyno and they call me with results. I don't know why anyone would say i had it prop dynoed. Even RC car Action and i talked about having one Dynoed in California and i told them why bother, you can't strap anything to it to calculate the intake and exhaust and how many cars out there run on a prop? And Skinny agreed. I don't believe that any engine in the .21 size is pushing 4.5 hp but i can believe they will push 55,000 under the right conditions and probably just before they blow.

ok.... um you missed what i was trying to get at... lemme try again...

What do you specifically do to the motors to make them "get better fuel economy and runs cooler and try to get another 5000 rpm out of an engine doing so"?

..the conrods cant take the stress of 55,000rpms..they will blow before that..

and dynos can be useful...as long as the results compared came from the same dyno...ie..compare RCCA dyno numbers..with other RCCA dyno numbers

Repete- what it you lean one motor out more than the other. and the ambient temperature is 5 degrees higher or lower. the humidity is different on both days- the air filters have different amounts of oil in them- barometric pressure is different. etc. etc. I mean there are soo many factors to take into consideration that there is almost no way to do an "All Things Being Equal" dyno comparison unless you do it in a vacuum. :-)

Actually im interested , and actively study engine mods. Its interesting to see what results people get from their mods and the different approaches to mods. Im learning heaps from reading every ones answers.. would love to see more pics. ill be posting some of mine as soon as i get the film developed, and no i dont have a working digi cam..

they dont just run it one time..they tweak it till they achieve maximum power...and all things cant be equal..but still..power will be close

RE: Official Porting Pics Thread

I understand they do multiple "passes" on the dyno as I do with my 1:1 cars. But What does it mean maximum power? Who knows how they are doing them, I mean you can lean a motor wayyyy out on the Dyno to spin 50,000 RPMS if its lean enough, and it could also be running at 400+ degrees. But that is not how its going to perform in a buggy. Your not gonna be able to lean it wayy out and just expect it to stay running for a a long race. It'll blow. And the numbers they get, are all based on standards that are already assumed to be accurate and out there. No one has any idea if these nitro motors even make 1/2 of a horspeower in all actuality. But I guess if your comparing to the next motor and see a gain or increase in power it may mean that that motor is more powerful than the other- but still the numbers don't mean anything.

I'm not on Rick, I like his attitude and work as far as I've seen, My question to you is- Do you have a base for comparison, by that I mean have you run one of his motor and compaired it to another mod? Also 5.5hp did he print that or was it someone else? Why do you feel the need to insult others by calling them children? I understand that you have a right to your oppinion however there are better ways to get your point across than to be insulting.
