Jon Hazelwood, the UK Champ and TTR sponsored driver said..

Taking off the brace mounts made the car a little more forgiving over the crazy bumps we had in Holland this year.
He didnt fold his car in half, but perhaps he doesnt nail it over every jump and roll it end over end....

Alex

do you know for certain Amerang wont warranty the chassis, or was it just one you heard about that was refused?

Ah well, some of us can afford $47 for a new chassis if it breaks, after all, its only a gallon of fuel...(UK)

Best I get one in stock in case

:D

The S3 is an awsome car, great price and great performance. TT are absolutley commited to providing a world class product. The durability of the S3 is fantastic, infact it's probably the strongest car I have driven.

From what I hear and read in the U.S, Ace are providing great support for TT, and certainly here in the UK Amerang is doing the same.

Uberchav Alex, please don't assume how Amerang would respond to this issue, as we havn't been asked to replace a chassis yet, it would be faily hard to send out a new one.

Hi Jon
it will be good to have some feedback from the UK's number 1 TTR driver on here:D

you'll have to excuse Alex as he doesn't like anything that isn't Hobao:eek:

Hi Jon, well I'm still waiting for parts from Amerang 2 years on. Now I've sold the buggy (EB4 S1) they were for I've given up on them. But hopefully if more of these chassis start going down this path TTR and Amerang would admit there is a design fault and support the customers better than I was. But after seeing yours so smoothly driven round my home track (Swindon) I know this buggy is a worlds contender and thats why I have opted to design a similar chassis for the Hybrid 3. Though it wont be extruded like the S3s it may have a similar box section look to it.

Adam .lol. You should know I have an XB8 and 777 within easy reach at all times. Although they both have Ho Bao parts on them. Though I do mostly use Ho Bao in my experiments.

I was concerned right from the start when i saw this new chassis design on the S3. I didn't like how all the stress was put on the center diff. plate - it just seemed like something that could cause a problem.

I'm not too surprised something like this happened - like its been mentioned several times, the buggy does have to flex. The buggy is designed so well i can't see how that happened without a huge crash or something. That is really thick stuff - i dont see how regular racing could cause that to crack so severly.

the only time the chassis will break is if the screws securing the diff top plate to chassis are loose...other than that..the joining aluminum peices would bend before the chassis would break

After spending the last 2 full days at our indoor track, I am so very pleased with the S3. I have had a big smile of my face for 2 days now! This cars handling is amazing! This car corners like a dream, loves to fly, and the great acceleration is very noticeable. Especially the acceleration!
Everybody keeps asking me what kind of engine I'm running, because its obvious on our short straight that this car shoots out of corners lightning fast.
No one believes me when I tell them that I'm running an OS RG .21 with a Jammin' JP-1 pipe, running 30%. HA!!!
Less is more with this car on a small track!!!

I've tried quite a few different setups, and ended up with: 5k front diff, 3k center , and 5k rear. 30wt shock oil in front, 40wt in back, ending up back with the stock red springs. 2 1/2 deg. toe out in front 3 deg blocks in the rear. negative 1.5 camber all around. Panther Switch "c" compound tires.
This is working well for me on our high traction clay track.
I haven't broken anything, just the crack in the chassis. After one gallon through it and all's that wrong is a small crack in the chassis that Ace is replacing for free I feel real good about my move from my Kanai. Plus the parts are about HALF the price as Kyosho !!
I love the S3, and look forward to a good outdoor racing season with it!! :D

Racers edge has shock towers for the S3, unfoutunatly they are DOUBLE the price of the TTR upgrades. I'm not sure about that.
Has anybody broken a red TTR shock tower?

Galifrey 03-11-2005 02:24 AM

RE: S3 Broken Chassis ( pics )

ChiTownRC

The red shock towers can break in a hard crash, so we have been doubling them with the stock (front only) shock tower for an unbreakable front end...

What piston balls are you using? or are you using non TTR pistons?

:D

I'm using 2 on all of them. To be honest, I haven't changed them around at all yet, maybe next practice session. For now I have to get ready for the race on Sunday.

Great bit of video editing, that swindon track looks awesome, must try getting down there soon...

Can you give us some more clarity on this broken chassis you have seen...

Surely that must have had a horrendous crash to break the chassis and the centre diff braces like that?

RE: S3 Broken Chassis ( pics )

It was done at WOT and head on into a curb. So it can be called a freak accident. I can't get any pics of it as I didn't have the cam on me and now hes replaced the chassis and binned the old one thres no way I'm going dump diving to find it. What would worry me is these cracks that are appearing without reason, looking at the chassis' cleanliness I'd say it was only just broken in, probably on the first proper run. Pure speculation but worrying if I'm right.

Galifrey 03-11-2005 08:16 AM

RE: S3 Broken Chassis ( pics )

Thanks for that info Alex

Dont panic, just wanted more clarity not evidence, I don't for one moment think you would lie about it...

The head on into a curb sounds like a serious acident so thats to be expected, a normal chassis would also fold up..

You are right about the slight crack... I feel it could be vibration fatigue, but it could also just be a weak spot in the extrusion..

Anyway, its something to look out for, the chassis is pretty darn cheap $47, about £25 in the US so be interesting to see the UK price, allowing for VAT and import taxes I guess £35 should cover it...

If it only goes after a few months racing, I think I can live with that...

:D

The retail price of a chassis is under £40. Considering the process involved in producing such a lovely chassis I find that price amazing!

Hi to all on this forum. Any questions relating to the S3 please feel free to ask me and I will do my best to help.

Great bit of video editing...

I disagree. I had to stop watching it as I got sick and a headache at the same time. Much too short sequences and way too many flashy transitions. It's not actually showing the driving, it's showing what the editing program can do and how fast the zoom on the camera is.
A guy once told me he got sick because of my on-board-video. I didn't believe that was possible. Now I know better. I hope I'm not offending anyone and that the filmmaker is as appreciative of criticism as I think I am. ;)

So is that £39.99? LoL.

If they are going to crack like that, it would be nice to keep the price down.

Well if you judge your buggies on what you read on internet forums, you may as well leave it unbuilt... as you will never see the benefit either way

;)
