Just get it built and take it out. If it breaks then let us know. If not, then let us know your praises.

i just dominated the 2nd race of the local point series race..the SH powered TTR s3 was dialed beyond belief...even in the main after having horrible crashes down the back strait numerous times (why do people stop infront the leader on the backstrait?)..the buggy was not tweaked at all..the buggy gets faster and faster everytime i drive it

RE: S3 Broken Chassis ( pics )

I just finished 7th ( out of 9 ) in the A-main.( out of E ) There was 3 S3's in it. The winner was a TTR sponsored driver. There was also another S3 in the A. Nothing broke on any of our S3's, and they looked great. ( especially the Winner's S3 ). The more I drive the S3, the more I love it!! I can't wait for outdoor season!!
I'm still waiting for the replacement, and haven't changed out the cracked chassis yet, but it doesn't seem to effect the handling at all. ( Although it would be easier to say that If I'd have won! )
:D

Nice job repete!!! GO TTR!!

My S3 is nearing completion, mod Crono and EX10 are on the way...if the chassis cracks so be it.
One of the MT racers put the finishing touches on his S3 today, got to witness the first scuffs being applied to the car after the races were done. I must say the guy was not impressive driving his LST, but when he put that S3 on the track he was instantly transformed into a quality driver. The car seemed unflappable despite his efforts to crash...very forgiving even with the setup straight from the manual.
Gave me good reason to get excited about finishing mine:D

just make sure to use LockTite on all screws going into the extruded top plate from the diff

RE: S3 Broken Chassis ( pics )

Yes, repete, you're right, those screws loosening is a problem, I've actually managed to get nuts on the 4 screws holding the center diff brace to the chassis, using longer screws, and curved needle-nose pliers. I did this after a couple of stripped holes on the chassis. I ended up doing this to all 4, no more loose screws or broken mounts for me! Its a little tedious, but seems to be worth the time, considering how many times those screws loosened up before. :D

I think its also great to have a celeb on the forum, I saw all those Grizzly Adams programs, what ever happened to the bear and the old man with the donkey. Must have been hard living in those mountains. Still you are the National Champ now well done.

Managed to break not 1 but 2 steering bars today...

Think I will design my own option bar and get some machined up..

:D

Update

Apparently TT have designed a new steering bar option part and it is coming soon...

Guess that has made the racers edge one redundant shortly after launch

:D

RE: S3 Thread !!!

I finally received the new chassis from Ace. I think what has been said is correct about the center chassis braces coming loose is what caused the crack in the first place.
I locked the screws down with red lock-tite, and have had 1 practice day, and 1 race day ( that I took 3rd in the A-main!) with nothing breaking, or screws coming loose.
I also have installed a aluminum diff mount, possibly the plastic one has enough flex to have contributed the problem. Its a little premature to tell for sure , but the original crack happened from normal racing, no terrible crashes, the difference being I was having problems with the screws holding the diff plate coming loose, and the plastic diff mount.
Here's some more pics of the cracked chassis and my new and improved S3:

if you ever owned a s2 then the s3 breaking chasis, steering plates, fuel tanks, shock towers should not come as any suprise :D

Great bit of video editing...

I disagree. I had to stop watching it as I got sick and a headache at the same time. Much too short sequences and way too many flashy transitions. It's not actually showing the driving, it's showing what the editing program can do and how fast the zoom on the camera is.
A guy once told me he got sick because of my on-board-video. I didn't believe that was possible. Now I know better. I hope I'm not offending anyone and that the filmmaker is as appreciative of criticism as I think I am. ;)
thats just uberchav trying to show off his video editing skills. we all know you can do special effects, its as easy as flicking a light switch.

I don't think the S3 HAS to have these upgrades, but I'd feel kind of stupid IF i broke something that I could have upgraded, in a main.
( 2 1/2 gallon through my S3 and NOTHING but a crack in the chassis ) :D

What kind of clutch setup are people using in the S3, and /or what clutch spring tool works?

Yeah but only an idiot would think the S2 and S3 share anything in common other than the make, type and the mark (EB4)...

ChiTown.i run teh stock TTR clutch and springs...works great

ChiTownRC 03-22-2005 11:42 PM

RE: S3 Broken Chassis ( pics )

Thanks repete, I've been using the stock setup also, and yes it seems to be working well. It's time for a new clutch for me and I 'm was considering trying a heavier spring, but I can't find the 1.1's for the TTR. So I've been looking at new clutches including the Werks power clutch, RMV speed 2, or the Fioroni adjustable, along with Kyosho blacks or the mugen clutches. The problem is, I'm looking for more options that I can't find with TTR, but after enjoying the ease of removing the TTR clutch, I'm hesitant to go back to the Kyosho style clutches ( painful to work on) . Anyone running an adjustable in the S3?
