Dad:
Here are the latest pix of my Big Swamp Buggy.
The first one shows the bottom side of the deck showing the reinforcing boards for the access plate screws. The second and third pics show the engine stand sitting on top of the unglued deck. In the fourth pic I have actually started cementing the engine stand together. While the engine stand was drying I cemented the the deck on to the frame.
Note that I decided to do away with the cockpit and cut off the front part of the deck. I am going to replace it with a single piece of ply from my LHS.

Wow, those are great pix Tim. [sm=thumbs_up.gif] I am a little confused about how the brass tubes attach to the rudder arms, part 17 & 18 I think.
Do the brass tubes mount and get epoxied into the "dog bone" shaped parts. In other words, to I drill clearance holes for the tubes or just for the rods, leaving the tubes to ride between the arms? I understand how the brass rods fit into the rudders themselves, no problem.

Thanx Tim:
After looking at your pix and studying them I got it. I am coming along. I will post a few more pix by weeks end showing my progress.
I don't know if you noticed, but I have posted asking about mounting the servos, etc. I purchased my kit on ebay as new but old stock. My instructions clearly tell me to mount my radio and servos in the engine tower. How stupid. Imagine the radio getting douched the first time water comes over the bow. I am going to fabricate a mounting system inside the radio/servo compartment since my kit does not provide any hardware for this whatsoever. I also plan to mount my servos on their sides. I have an idea. Maybe by weekend I will have made some strides toward this.

RE: Big Swamp Buggy ??'s
I bought a Big swamp buggy from a swap meet and need to mount a motor on it. Can any of you guys with plans or instructions give me a little help with the engine mount. Planes have a thrust washer to firewall measurement is there something like that for the BSB.

I am not sure how to answer your question. You can see above what the engine stand looks like on BadAzz's picture post. I have been a little busy and have not posted any new pix, but I will take some and post soon. At the same time I will try to scan the plans for the engine stand and mount for you and post it too. There are three pieces of 3/8 inch 5 or 8 ply wood that comprise the engine mount on top of the engine stand. I have not affixed mine yet as I have not chosen the motor for sure yet. You will see above that BadAzz has not affixed his mount either, probaby for the same reason
How about posting some pix of what you have and are working with. It may give someone else a better idea on how to advise you. It is always great to share ideas. I have learned so much posting back and forth with these guys.

Howdy All,
Just wanted to say thanks to both BadAzzSwampBuggy and n8mkr for posting their pics.
Picked up a BSB recently to build during my Xmas holidays, the pics just make it that much easier.
I'm sure you'll see questions from me and perhaps pics of my own come the new year... that is provided my wife will let me get out to the shed
Cheers

My pleasure. I had my kids over the weekend and did not have time to post any pix. Seems like I am so busy. I have been working dilligently on my BSB. The item I just completed is a servo mount for inside. My old instructions told me to mount the servos in the engine stand. I fabricated my own servo mount and although it may not be the most elegant, I am proud of it. I will have a buch of new photos to post this week sometime. -- John

RE: Big Swamp Buggy ??'s
Hi John,
I know this problem all too well. Our little fella came into the world in a rush 3 months back. It's been a challange to get out and into the shed for some R&R. Hoping that over Christmas that things will settle down a little and I can start glueing a few bits and pieces together. Have updated my models page, haven't filled in much detail as yet. I'm off to visit my in-laws today for a week, they are only 3600kms (2250mi) away, so not a big trip
The MDS 68FS pro that I picked up in Manassas last year for an absolute song has been burning a hole in a shelf wanting to get into a model. The BSB was what I had in mind when I made the purchase, however finding a kit at a reasonable price has been a challange here in Oz. No matter have said bits and pieces now.
Looking forward to seeing how far both yourself and BasAzzSwampBuggy have gotten, I'm certainly way behind can't wait to try and catch up a little.
Cheers

Tim & others:
Ok finally, here are some new pix. My engine stand is nearly complete. I have yet to mount my rudders, rudder horn and tie rod. Note how I used some fiberglass cloth to reinforce the engine stand. I was not confident with it originally. Neither the top nor the bottom surfaces will not be seen as the fuel tank will cover the top section and the bottom underside will be painted and hidden.

I look forward to seeing your swamp buggy as it unfolds. Here are some pix that illustrate how I joined my bottom flat pieces and how I fabricated a servo mount. Rather than use the pine strips to reinforce the seams I used fiberglass cloth. You will note that I have not affixed the bottom pieces yet because I don't know where my antenna, charging port and power switch are going to be located (I refuse to unscrew all those screws in the servo cover each time I want to charge the battery so I am working on another idea....more later). That said, I used blind nuts under 4 3/4x3/4x1/8 plywood pads to make a foundation for my servos. I then used a piece of ply atop those with some small pieces of maple glued on top. The entire servo assembly can be removed from the chassis for repair, etc.

Here is the plan for the standard engine stand. I will study the instructions further to see if names the thrust angle.
