Hello, this is a boat I just got I know nothing about airboats. I have trucks and cars. elc. and nitro. Im really excited about this boat. but need help getting whatever I need to finish it. I have some servos but I dont think they have enough power but they give me an idea of how it all goes together. one runs the fins and one runs the throttle I believe. I have the cable for the fins but need one for the throttle. I have a recever. .......how much tourqe and speed will I need in the servos ? and what size engine? Im not looking to fly just move. Is there any good sites that I can learn from besides here? thanks for any help. the boat is roughly 26x13

I'd go with a .46 size airplane motor for that size.. where did you get that at?

the other option is going electric, but anyways. since the motor sits kind of high i'd look for a lighter motor, and since the prop isn't running in the water you won't need an extremely powerful engine, but you will something with decent rpm, and you won't need a huge engine. a .15 would move that thing along just fine, and i'm sure you weren't looking to sink a ton of money into this, so a decent .15 would probably move along just fine.

as for servos why not use what you have and see how it works? you probably won't need really fast servos, but you may need some torque.

a .15 will will be to small. the hull is 2'x13'' prolly ways 3 lbs. electric motor can short out if they get water on them.

How much does the boat weigh? Are you wanting to run dry ground also?

Without knowing the above questions I would suggest a .46. If money is an issue, go with a Super Tiger. I personally prefer OS motors.

Servos. Use standard Futaba 3003 servos. These are standard size servos and will work well for your application.

For a throttle linkage, use 2-56 golden rod. The red with yellow core. You can get that from Tower Hobbies.

thanks, I got it on ebay, I what to go with a nitro engine for sure. if the stand is to high I can fix it or make a new one. plus it came with another one . I havent set it in the boat to see how tall it is yet. thanks for the web sites. i would guess around 11 or 12 pounds will see later for sure. think i would stay in the water. and would spend around 100 on an o.s. i like o.s also

Try to get a weight measurement for us. That will help in choosing the correct motor for your application.

How big of a prop can you swing on that? Measure from the top of the motor stand down to the closest obstruction that the prop would hit.

That's a neat looking hull you have. What's it made out of?

The current motor mount is set up for a pusher style configuration. This will limit the selection of props available.

What does the other motor stand look like?

well I was way off on the weight Its just over 4 lbs. its made of fiberglass with some aluminum pieces built in it. the red stand in the pic is 7in from the top to the bottom of the boat and the 2nd stand is 6in. I will get pic on later of it . having a hard time getting the pic on the comp. with the 2nd stand it looks like it would set the engine more in the center of the fins. a pusher would be with the prop facing towards the back? that is what I would like.......... I said before I would spend around 100 for an engine forget that I said that [8D]. I will spend what ever it takes[8D] been looking on tower seems marine engines are a bit more then cars.

I'm glad you were off on the weight!

Since you prefer the pusher configuration, with the prop toward the rear of the boat, I would go with an OS46AX. You can't go wrong with those motors. Plus they put out a bit more HP than the Super Tiger, plus the OS is within your price range at $104. The extra HP hill help the engine not have to work as hard. When running a pusher configuration, they will run warmer than in a puller configuration. The less the motor has to work in a pusher configuration, the better for the engine life.

With the OS46 you can run up to an 11" prop. So with either stand, you'll be fine. I also would like to see the other stand when you can get the pic up.

Not sure what the "other" stand is for. Possibly an electric motor stand.

Food for thought here. If you want to run a puller configuration, just turn the red stand around and let the prop be in front. Your motor will last longer and you'll get better performance.

could I run the OS.46ax as both a pusher and a puller? just need dif. prop? I think a pusher would be fine for now because Ive never driving an airboat? ....just so I know what makes a pusher prop work harder? . thanks guys

Yes you can run the OS as a pusher or puller.

Running in a pusher configuration, you don't get as much air flowing over the head to cool it as you would with a puller. These nitro motors are designed to have the prop wash flowing over the head to cool the motors. So if you don't get adequate cooling, your motor runs warmer. Which will lead to shorter engine life and a loss of performance.

If your gonna run a pusher, boost your oil content to 20%. Fox fuels carry fuels with 20% or you can add castor oil to the fuel to boost the content.

Hi red stand is for engine the stand at the back if for the fuel tank get plastic boxes small ones put your rc things in them

Ok my list so far is an... O.S. 46AX abl and a sullivan flex gold n rod 2-56 and a top flight 10x6 prop for break in then put a 11x6 after break in? where would the fuel tank sit?

cool thats easy.. will the rods work for turning the fins also. they stiff enough

they should be.. i thinks thats what their made for.. i not use a smaal steel rod or aluminum rod

well I think it needs to be flexible. the one I have on it now is a cable in a sleeve . I have not oiled it yet but its real stiff thats why i thought i might need stronger servos.

try oiling it first b4 spend alot of $$ on a servo
