Bought one yesterday and after charging the batteries I decided to mess around with it for a few minutes before dark.

Ran great for a minute but then it had a rudder problem and it went into a constant clockwise turn. I shut it down and decided to wait for it to drift back rather than it ending up father away in the dark . Long story short. After about 20 minutes I returned to see the boat had gone vertical and the back end sank. At this point I decided to go get it. Yep, the water was cold

So now I had a submerged boat that was brand new. Did the dry out procedure and I got motor run but the rudder servo was dead. I drove a total of 140 miles to buy the boat. The color I did not want was 1/2 mile away.

I was less than pleased with the sellers employees attitude about a resolution to the problem. He immediately took a attitude that I was at fault for letting it drift back. I told him I did everything by the book. Then he told me to bring it back at which point I told him that was out of the question and I had already taken the better part of the weekend up traveling and when I got back home I would have near 300 miles devoted on this boat.

I then asked him to UPS the boat back after a repair that I hoped made it somewhat better resistant to the water. He said that would be a hassle to UPS it back at which point I decided to put him in his place in front of other customers about who had the largest hassle at this point. One of the things I noticed in the prop area was a brass looking bushing like ring that was lose and would make a lateral movement up and down the shaft if contact was made with it. I pointed this out to the guy with the negative attitude about having that checked out. I have little confidence this would be conveyed to anyone that looks at it.

So I guesss my question is .

What is the normal waiting time for a Supervee 27 to go **** up while drifting?

Should there have been a change out with a new boat when this kind of a problem submerges a new out of the box boat?

Are most people that work at Hobby Stores this big of a pain in the ass?

The hobby shop should have warned you to charge your batteries and let them drain at least a couple times until they are consistent on run time. Rechargable batteries when they are new, with MY experience, aren't ready to be trusted until this is done.

The person selling this boat did not have or did not share that knowlege which caused your root problem with the rudder and made you shut it down.

I do not own what you have or looked at the instructions, but I HAVE worked in a hobby shop before and always warned people of this "untold" problem with rechargables.

You need to go through all the hardware and remove it and reinstall it with some sealant to seal around the screws . That will keep water out . also remove the drive flex shaft and regrease it . also the rubber boot on the transom for your steering may need to be glued a little better to prevent water from coming through there . And also put some sealant/glue around the water intake line on the transom . these few things should help keep the water out .

20 minutes is a long time to sit in the water. Buy a pool noodle, cut it into pieces that will fit in some of the open places inside the hull, and stuff them in.

Most items now days explicitly instruct you to call the manufacturer and not return the item to the place of purchase. You're asking the LHS to take on an issue and expense that's really not their fault. Their profit margis are pretty narrow as it is. The owner may be of more help, but technically, it's still not their problem. 20 minutes idle time for a 5 pound boat that technically isn't watertight (as long as there's a tube for the shaft, and it's not gasket sealed, it's technically not water tight) is a lot. I hope that you are able to get a resolution to the problems. You went through a lot of hassle and deserve a working boat. Hang in there, the SV is great and it's worth it. Good luck.

I don't agree other than the part about getting a hassle from the seller. They gave no instructions (in fact none at all) that stated not to pay attention to the instructions in the manufactures booklet that said to let the boat drift and by the time I had taken the boat back, 24 hours had not gone by. There is nothing in the book that states a particular time that the boat will sink if left adrift. I sell a product every day and there is no way after less than a day from selling it that I would put a customer at the mercy of manufacturer. If something I sold didn't fly, move or float and that was it's primary function, I would not hang my reputation on selling it.

I have that boat and the only time it took on water was when i nose-dived it wide open.Not the boats fault.They are nice boats. Question:Why not retrieve it with a fishing pole and tennis ball? This would avoid standing around and waiting for an inannimate object.
