Best Hex Drivers
#1
I've been a fan of Dynamite tools, but in all candor am beginning to wonder if their lineup of hex drivers can handle the amount of wrenching I do. Below is a pic of four different sets I've gone through in the past 12 months. These are the 2mm drivers. Every size greater has held up much better - 2mm being the most common so it gets the most work. I tried switching tips when I could, but eventually the set screw gets stripped. ;-)
I'm looking to get a real quality set instead of switching out every few months. I hear a lot of good things about MIP. I ordered an MIP Thorp 2mm driver to test it out. Any other suggestions? Thanks

Snap on, Kingchrome, JBS all make great tools, designed for automotive, I have never had trouble with them on either real cars or RC's, snap on also has the lifetime warrenty. Not sure if Kinchrome or JBS tools are available in the states tho.

Dont forget the Wiha range. My 2.5 ball driver is just starting to wear now after 20+ years of constant use. I've never used any other brand (apart from the cheap ones when i first started out) so i cant comment on how they compare to other brands price wise.

Same as post 2, I would go with the decent automotive tools such as Snap on, Facom and Mac. In most cases they offer lifetime warranty....Hudy stuff is nice but I think they only offer a 30 day defect warranty.

For the HK-450 GT which is widely accepted to have the ****test screws, I have used a WERA 1.5mm hex driver with NO problems. Magnetic tip, and works wonders. Haven't stripped one screw for a long, long time. When I build a 450 Pro, I will get a 2.0mm one. Great tools.

HUDY are by far and away the best RC tools, but you'll pay BIG bucks for the privilege of owning them.

They just feel amazing. I have a set of Associated hexes I'm replacing with these, and I never had many complaints about the Associated ones. But using a Hudy one - wow, it's a night and day difference. Hard to describe, but Hudy is quality. Big time.

LOL Maximus. I have been using those (insert you favorite variety of curse words here) wrenches for about........iono, since i started with these rc buggers. Although, they were made out of stone back then. Been saying for years im gonna get some. However, i always end up buying something else. I'll get them in my hand and end up putting them back for something that will bolt on to one of my RCs. "Well, i've been gettin by for over 2 decades with those L wrenches and these shocks look really nice".......

I have tried several different types of 1.5 mm Hex drivers for building 450 size helicopters...
Many of the name brands turned out to be terrible.. and would strip easily.. Hudy are awesome, Wiha are great, and suprisingly, the Hobbykng Hex Drivers are 98% as good as Hudy for a fraction of the cost..

I actually only use the HK ones now because they do the job perfectly and have never stripped one..
I have now built over 15 RC helicopters...

hey just wondering..... I wonder how many people have made the mistake, like myself in the past... of not cleaning out the screws head before trying to remove it?
Ive been using some alloy screws on a drift car, and boy it doesent take much to strip them... no kidding, sometimes i wish they were a flat head style tip

Eman makes a good point about the HUDY drivers feeling so good in your hand, they really do. Anyway, I too will be looking at the HK ones, thanks for that tip.

Gaui makes a great hex tool. Interchangeable bits that slide into the handle. Great for heli's but will work with any hex screws. They are not ball drivers though. Love this tool:
