Default ESC won't program...

I picked up a Hobbyking 150a ESC, and I can't get it to program or set throttle limits.

the instructions say to set throttle limits first. It will not recognize the full throttle input, but will recognize if i go into reverse. This is consistent even if I reverse the channel in the transmitter.

It will beep like it initialized but I cannot get any output.

if anybody has experience or tips with this ESC I would greatly appreciate any advice. I am new to cars, but not new to RC.

Your throttle trim is set to neutral? Is the EPA settings on the throttle channel ...set to 100% forward and reverse?
And also check the Dual Rate for throttle channel if you have one...set that to 100%

Then do a throttle range calibration again.

What transmitter are you using?
Is it a brushless motor hooked up to the ESC with three wires?
What motor do you have?
I see there is only one 150A HobbyWing ESC. It says in the specs not to use 4 pole motors. Hopefully you don't have one to test the specs.

I have not Contacted hobbyking. I thought I would try here first.

I'm using a dx3e.

Yes it is brushless.

I believe it is an 8 pole motor. I can't remember, but I did check to be sure it's not a 4.

Here is a link to the esc.

I have no experience with these so I can't help with programming but I don't think your motor will work with the esc. They say not to use a 4 pole motor, most car/truck motors are either 2 pole or 4 pole. Taking that into account, logically they intended this for 2 pole motors. Maybe I'm wrong and that's why they didn't say "use only 2 pole motors".

But consider this. A motor has 3 phases to it's windings. Each phase is fired by the esc once for each pole. So for a 2 pole motor the esc fires a total of 6 times per revolution, 12 times for a 4 pole motor, 24 times for an 8 pole motor. Now multiply that by the rpm and you can see the esc is firing the phases an awful lot. And it all depends on the Mosfets being able to switch on and off really fast. Some esc's can't switch very fast. The old Traxxas vxl3s is a well known example of an esc that will run 4 pole motors, but at about half the speed of a 2 pole since it can't switch fast enough. I haven't heard of anyone running the vxl3s with a 4 pole long enough to cause any damage to the esc but it may be possible damage will occur. I'd be very weary of running an 8 pole motor on an esc that says a 4 pole motor can damage it.

I see Spektrum doesn't call them EPAs sorry.

Start with these adjustments and recalibrate ESC throttle range.
If that doesn't work I check with HobbyKing
