He (or we) need to pinpoint what's causing all this and fix it. Or else he's njust going to have a car that glitches out every single time he does a speed run.
So what do you prefer, a car that malfunctions every time you go down the road but stops safely because you dished tons of cash on cool and shiny fail safe devices or a car has no problems to begin with but still has safety features that prevent it from suffering if any?
Nothing is cheap or expensive, you simply have to be smart.

ProductDescription
The Killer RC Bumble Bee Nitro Killswitch™ will automatically stop the fuel flow to your nitro engine during: radio glitch/signal loss, low battery, cut wires, or total battery power loss. You can also kill the engine any time you want by pressing the Aux button on your transmitter, or turning off the transmitter power button. No more plugging the exhaust, jamming up the flywheel, or pinching the fuel hose.

lots of good ideas, some of mine are:
the throttle servo is also the brake servo, typical set ups have a "servo-saver" which is spring that allows overdrive of the function/allows pushrod to go past the controls endpoint without 'bottoming out' the servo. endpoints are adjustable. you can set up "full reverse" throttle trigger position on transmitter to give full brakes and good idle, and engine will kill if you also add full down/idle trim. many persons have alluded to this, it is all in the fine adjustments of the throttle trim and the servo savers (they are adjustable!)
this aforementioned scenario allows any simple non-programmable radio to accomplish what we are asking.

No one wants a run away and I think the chances of actually needing a device to stop the engine are pretty slim...providing there is some kind of failsafe system and a throttle return spring.... but using a third channel would provide a means to stop the engine without compromising normal runing.
With a third channel you could choke the air or the exhaust...cut the fuel or brake the flywheel.

I have the redcat caldera 3.0, your right barracuz it could still hit someone, however when i turn my remote off brakes are applied, so if i'm ina a runaway due to broken clutch or something i'll shut off my remote and withe the killer switch the car will stop quickly and shut off the motor. so if i'm in a radio glitch will the receiver still be messed up if i turn the remote off?

That killerrc kill switch is pretty nice, in essence a fancy "fuel line pinch" device with programming options, I hadn't seen that before.
Mr Anthoop, good catch, if you set up the throttle exactly like I discussed the car will want to crawl (or shoot!) forward at neutral throttle position, I think I was just discussing though that throttle trim can be used to kill engine is all..
maybe we're barking up the wrong tree.... crashes are gonna happen, someone should just gather some pressurized co2 gun cannisters, some brass and silicone hoses, some balloons(like heavy duty water balloons), and invent the first rc car airbag that upon inflation cushions everything behind the front bumper!... and it has to sell for less than $60 because that seems to be the complaint threshold for most accessories.
