Default Beginner car purchase question.

Hi seems like a great forum wish I'd found it before rushing into buying! Purchased and paid for a FTX Viper but not yet received. Since purchasing I've read some negative things regarding quality of FTX RC cars. I watched a few videos and liked the look of the Viper apart from that my knowledge is zero. Have I just chucked away £154.00? Any thoughts on the Viper would be appreciated. Maybe I need to make modifications to strengthen before running? Thanks and happy new year 😊

Welcome.

That FTX Viper, I have never seen before. Some of the FTXs look like an Arrma copy? Probably 'cause sold in another country (UK). First off, every RC car breaks. Some are made better than others. Plastics used to mold parts are different from one manufacturer to another. The Viper looks promising. But just looking at the pictures and reading about it is one thing. I always tell people, research anything before you buy nowadays and read some reviews. Make sure the vehicle you are thinking about purchasing has great parts support for it. I haven't taken a look at any videos of the Viper in action yet, but I know people like to put RCs in high demanding situations that eventually put a vehicle on the "disabled list" and enter the work bench for repairs.

What did you see that is giving you second thoughts?

Hi Rusty thanks for your reply. I saw comments on the FTX Facebook page regarding the FTX Viper negative posts regarding build quality and overall strength of the buggy. I guess you cant please everyone! Anyway, the buggy is due to arrive tomorrow so excited to see how it goes.

I'm sure you'll have a blast. Maybe just go over the nuts and bolts to make sure everything is tight.

+1 on what Rusty said.

If you're concerned about the model's durability, I'd suggest finding a proper bumper set for it. I know, it's a buggy, and they don't look so great with big ol' honkin' bumpers on, but a proper bumper set is the best thing you can do to keep your model in one piece. Finding one that'll FIT may be a bit challenging, as I doubt the aftermarket makers like RPM or T-Bone Racing will make one specific to your model, but you may be able to find one that could be made to fit.

The other thing my buddy and I did to protect our cars in the area we run in, was to make "crash barriers". We have a race course laid out around some trees, and trees can BITE. We got 10in tall orange safety cones and placed several of them against each tree, on the face we might hit. Then, we also wrapped a 10in-wide strip of that blue sleeping pad foam used for camping around each tree and set of cones. The foam provides padding, the cones direct impact energy up and away. They've saved us countless times.
