Default Suggestions Please

I am getting back into RC with my 8 year old and his 9 year old buddy and dad. So we need 4 cars.

We are hoping to spend under $200 for each car, and durability is number 1. This leads me to look at the Traxxas Rustler. I remember having a Rustler in the 90s and it was decent. They don't look like they have changed much. I have a Hobby People store close to my house, and they have then for $189.

I do like that they have waterproof electronics as the boys have zero RC experience and you never know....

Is there something else that I should look at?

Thanks!

That's a good choice ,rustler or a slash for a little more ,because they have good parts availability!...

For backdoor, backyard, neighborhood cul-de-sac, work site, general bashing...a Traxxas Rustler is always a good choice. I am partial to stadium trucks because of the way they handle. Also, the Rustler having ability to cut the power in half with a push of a button ...great for newcomers. There is a reason why they haven't changed much, they just plain work. The Rustler is one of Traxxas's best sellers.

I don't know if the parts will fit an electric rustler or not, but the nitro rustler handles heaps better with Jato suspension arms on it. The wider stance adds a ton of stability and makes wheelies more controllable and predictable when the truck is way overpowered. I've always liked my rustler (though I only run nitro - had an electric rustler many years ago and not for very long) because it's small and easy to haul around and it's a fun truck to drive. (My current nitro rustler has a 9 gallon 3.3 and CVEC single chamber pipe 24/64 gears).

Thanks for the replies guys! As soon as I have a chance to get to Hobby People we will be getting Rustlers. I wonder if they will give me a discount if we get 4 all at once...

Sweet! Traxxas is kinda "funny" about their prices, but it never hurts to ask for some more wiggle room .

We got our cars yesterday! Ended up getting 2 Rustlers for the boys, and 2 Slashs for the dads. Also got 4 of the adapters so that the car charger can be plugged into the wall.

Hobby people gave us a really good deal because we bought so much. Ended up saving about $100 total.
