Default Getting back into it with the boy

Hi Guys hope you are well thanks very much in advance for any help offered

Things have changed a bit since I used to assemble and disassemble my tamyia sand scorcher blackfoot and hot shot
the Hot Shot was the last I had and the change from the SS to that car was huge especially in the esc, battery, and motor departments.

And then I had children and all my toys went away.

But Now my boy is 12 its PLAYTIME I want to get him a kit NO RTR absolutely not if he builds it he know how it works thats how it should be thats the only firm statement I'm making here it has to be built by him and a little by me of course I can lend a hand ;-)

But as I said time has moved on LIPO this ESC that, Battery size milliamps???? brushed, brushless I've been doing some research and its a minefield I live and Derby and phoned the local model shop and asked for some advice as I told the guys there I would like to buy from a shop also so I can come back and forth and get the set up right however they never sent me the email of there recommendations probably scared I would buy online probably because I mention this http://www.prolineracing.com/pro-mt.
and I don't think they stock it This proline is the truck style he likes I'm a buggy man but hey ho he wants a truck .The proline looks good but Im open to other suggestions you guys can offer the main thing is the guts the transmitter the batteries and the escthe motor I'm afraid I haven't a clue and I've read some threads on here where the guys have basically bought all the wrong stuff for the kit they have so to avoid that I need your advice and help (budget £500/£600)can't believe I just typed that lol

Thanks again

He wants a monster truck? Monster truck he shall get! Bonus...the whole "kit" thing is the right way to go about building something IMO. I'm all in for kits. Putting in the motor you want; the ESC you want; the servo you want; the battery you want, and the radio you want...that just plain awesome! Today's problem is RTR RCs out number any monster truck kits. I think the Pro-MT would be a great platform to build (probably about the only one ). Just make sure parts are available. Also, if 4wd is something on the wanted list, check out the Tekno MT410. Then again, that one is quite a bit more money, and doesn't even include wheels, tires, or body .

Battery, motor, and ESC? 4000mAh ~ 5000mAh 2S LiPo battery would be plenty of capacity (runtime). My general rule of thumb for "C" rating on a pack when it comes to bigger tires needing turned...nothing less than 40C (A Guide to Understanding LiPo Batteries ). For a ESC/brushless motor combo, I'd have a look at something short course-ish in specs. A 3650 sized (36mmx50mm) 3800Kv motor controlled by a 120A ESC would be a suggestion from me. The quality of motors varies from manufacturers, but a 4 pole 3650/540 sized motor should do the job in a monster truck (if not going bonkers on the Kv rating). If wanting somewhat of a "sure-thing" in a motor, turning some huge knobby tires, then you probably would want a little longer motor (3656/550 size). HobbyWing EZRun WP SC8 3656 sized motor combo, or EZRun Max10 SCT 3656 sized motor combo deserves to be looked at. A WP SC8 ESC, by itself, can be had for around $54 (USA) if you shop around.

Lots of possibilities out there to put in the chassis. What gearing you have, and how fast you want to go, will be your biggest dilemma.

Sounds like you and your son are about to have a great time.
Good luck.
Get out there and throw some dirt!

+1 on the kit, every car i have built has been far more appreciated! My most recent build was the yeti 1/10th scale from axial and it was a blast, really awesome truck to build and run, looks unique as well!

I'll always be a kit guy. I'd rather get a bare kit and use my skills and imagination to put my own specs into it. Truthfully, half the fun for me in RC is always the building process. Everyone wants convenience and easy today so manufacturers found out more money to be made RTR leaving true hobbyist and real RC pilots, in the dirt.

All about the money like everything in life.
