I think you have either running the motor too rich, running too cold of a plug, or a combination of both.
A. The glow plug has to get hot enough to ignite the fuel. If the glow plug is too cold for your model or if there is excessive fuel (aka rich condition), this problem can happen.
I would work on a) making sure you are running the correct glow plug and b) lean the high speed needle by 1/2 turn and trying again.
Try this and I bet it will work better.

Well, I'm fairly new to this also, but maybe we can come up with a solution. Not knowing if you've run the truck before, or if this is the first time(from new) you are firing the truck up I'll give ya a couple ideas. If the truck is new, then it's probably rich and flooding and it the high idle might be set from the factory b/c HPI instructs users to idle through first few tanks. Something I haven't had any luck with. Normally I'd say it sounds like a bad glow plug. Sometimes the vehicle will start and actually run for a bit then die suddenly. Try replacing and see what results you get. The next step would be to give the truck some gas with the glow starter on and see what kind of reaction you get. If it spits tons of fuel then it's more than likely too rich. If it runs fine and accelerates then I'd say go ahead and replace the glow plug. Good Luck. And don't be afraid to stop by your local Hobby store. They are usually more than happy to help (as long as you're patient I find). Besides, you'll probably be buying parts from them anywhoo.

this is new to me but not new. the person says the glow plug is almost new and he ran it with it in there so it cant really be that (could of gotten bad but i doubt it) the way it sounds to me is its not getting fuel (dieseling) could the carb be dirty or something. i noticed there is some dirt in the tank but not in the lines.

It sounds rich to me. When you pump excessive fuel into the carb with the glow ignitor on it will burn it off. But when you take it off the plug can't stay hot enough. Lean you Low end adjustment in about a 1/8 of a turn and try that then turn it another 1/8 if that doesn't work.

you need to reverse the throttle servo if pulling in is brakes and pushing out is gas. there should be a switch on your transmitter, figure out which channel your throttle servo is on and reverse it. It also sounds to me that your linkage isnt set up right. but we will get to that later.
