Ok, it's been several years since I've been around this.
I need some advice please!
I'd like to buy an off road truck (more practical for me) and was wondering what kind you all recommended. I don't want to spend a lot of money and I want electric.
I went to a Hobby store tonight and the prices seems to high. I checked ebay on a couple of the cars I saw and it seems like the used ones on ebay were even more expensive!
Anyway, any advice and/or recommendations would be appreciated!

Try tower hobbies, the have a Duratrax Evader ST RTR right now for $170 which is pretty cheap. That's what I have, just with a better motor, esc, batteries and other stuff. It's a great truck and at a low price too.

You really have to consider your price range. Unless you already have batteries and a charger for an electric truck that it will be running you a lot of money. I went to my LHS about a month ago and bought 2 3000 packs, 2 1500 packs and a Super Brain 969 charger for over 200 and thats just batteries, no car or truck. Also you have to think what you will be doing with it, will you be racing or will you just be bashing? If your kind of new I definately do not recommend buying something used though. Yeah it might be cheaper and it might be hop'd up but used stuff is a pain to deal with especially when the person sends you broken stuff. If your going to be racing look into stadium trucks made by Losi, Associated and a few other companies. If your just mostly bashing a stadium truck or an MT(monster truck) will be good.

Those are about as cheap as you'll get give or take 20 bucks or so unless you buy used. And those are "out of box" fun. (pay no attention to the New Bright, Nikko and Nkok. Those are for you 5 year old)

Thanks for the information. Anymore suggestions for specific trucks? The Tower Hobbies site carries a lot, espcially "Team Associated"and "Tamiya". What brands do I want to stay away from? I don't want a radio shack type brand. The Hobby store I went to here has a few Traxxas trucks with just about everything included for $200-250. I has really hoping to get in under $200 for everything. I'm not wanting to race or anything. I just want to play around off road but I don't want some cheap truck you get for a 8 year old.
Thanks!

Losi makes a nice electric, it's what most of the drivers run at the track I go to and it's not overly expensive - check it out !
I considerd both electric and gas before I bought one. I liked the electrics (I fly an electric plane and it so easy to go out with a charged battery, flip the ON switch and fly. No hassle with fuel and trying to get a balky engine started) but the sounds a gas truck makes swayed me.
You need to pick out a make and model you like, get the list price and then visit local hobby shops looking for a deal (and maybe look for a used one on eBay. If you watch you can sometimes pick one up at a good price. I bought my gas powered version there and am very happy with what I got). As mentioned above, batteries and charger for an electric can be a big expense but again, if you look around (particularly online) you can get some battery packs at reasonable prices.

I've got 2 Associated T3's and love them. They hold up great and theres plenty of hop-ups if and when you need them. I use a duratrax piranah charger with 3000mah packs and they go great. The cars were $200.00 a piece the charger was $50.00 and the packs were 2 for $45.00.

Ok, right now I have my eyes on the Traxxas E-Maxx. The local hobby store price is $334 (but I have to pay tax and still need battiers). Maybe this is too much truck for me!?
I was really hoping to get in after batteries and everything for $200-250. Looks like I may be at $400 now.

I decided on a stadium truck and obrdered the Team Losi XXX-T Sport. Went to a local hobby store but the only "deal" they would give was $8 gift certificate (price of batteries). What a joke. Found a good store in CA and saved just under $70. (seriously!)
Thanks for advice...
