Default Engine Probs

Hi All,

I hope I have posted this in the right section of the forum...[&:]

I have a HPI RTR RS 4 - 15 FE engine

I put my car to bed over the winter with plenty of after run oil, just got it out again and given it the once over. Had real problems atarting the engine would not start at all, I found out it was my in line filter was blocked I think with the after run oil. Any way I have removed it and the engine starts fine no prob. But when I am going at full speed and I release the throttle the engine dies straight away. It does this every time, the car is going flat out comes to a corner slows down and then just dies. I would like some help is my air filter blocked or the carb not open enough .. Please help

Many Thanks in advance from a guy in the UK [8D]

I have posted on the HPI forum but I think they are selective with their advice

i am thinking that it is possible you are running too lean. have you checked the temps or tried richening up the needles? this is normally a problem associated with an over lean condition of the HSN, although in your case it may be something different due to it being stored so long. you may also want to try replacing all the fuel line.

Hi, ok this is what you have to do, set the needles(high and low speed mixtures) to factory, like they were when you first got the car, if u dont remember it should be in your owners manuel. Then try it. But i highly dout thats your problem. Since you had it sit over the winter the glow plug gets old from just sitting there and "gunks up", and it is not able to stay hot enough to keep the engine running. I think you will probebly just need a new glow plug, i say this because i had the same problem about a year ago. And if neither of those work(which i highly think one of them will, most likley the glow plug), then try adjusting the throttle trim, or the idle screw. That should at least keep it running, then basically break it in a little bit and adjust ur high and low speed mixtures to get to its peek performance. Then you car should be cool and ready to go.[8D] Later, -DaVe

Lo M8ty

Ok I have replaced the glow plug, and the fuel tubing. I have adjusted the throttle trim and so far seems ok. It is running smoother now. It is bloody raining outside so I will have to wait for the weather to change. I will see what happens when I get the car up to top speed in the park. I dont want to take it to the track and look a jerk.. LOL

I will let you know boys,

One thing though I fitted the 2 speed to the car just before I put the car away for the winter and Jesus Christ the car flys now.. In fact so fast that the track I use has a long straight with a hair pin corner at the end. I am still getting to grips with the increase in speed as I keep ploughing the car into the fence.... :-)

Hi Guys

You were right I have fitted a new glow plug and new fuel tubing everyting seems to be ok now, in fact I was getting that confident that I went to the park again.. and my girl was watching. The car was going better than it was before the winter break. The only problem was I crashed into a dustbin and smashed the front and rear wheels off. I have ordered new parts and fingers crossed I will learn [:-]

What is the new T-15 engine like - I understand that this engine is a roto start rather than pull start..!

What is the performance like .. Do you get more mid range and more top speed...??? Will this engine drop straight into my RS4 3 - I have been quoted £80.00 for the engine only though I was told it would be pull start is the guy talking **** I thought it was roto start

guys thanks again for taking the time to help me out..
