On another message board I saw a post where someone says they used a microswitch as a throttle. What is a microswitch and does anyone have pictures???

Do you beleave his speed claim?
I am not sure from what he explained. I blew my ESC when I reached 93MPh myself - I am hoping with MTroniks gets me my new one it will hold up better with my gearing.
I did a google search and came up with many articles saying they use a microswitch direct on motor instead of an ESC. But no real explaination of what it is and no pictures of it. If it is just a direct power switch or something, then it would have to be brushed motors and hard as poop to control.
Anyone???

I found this:
Motor Control tutorial
I suppose you could just plug the battery in and fly on full power until it runs out but it is more normal to want some control over the power delivery.
The simplest form of control is a switch. The motor is either off or full on. Such a switch can be mechanical, a microswitch activated by the servo arm. This used to be quite common but there are not many of these setups left, particularly on aircraft. You can also buy electronic switches which plug into the throttle channel on your receiver and control the motor in the same way (off or full on). These have some use in electric gliders where the requirement is to climb, glide for a while then switch the motor back on to gain more height but again are not very common any more and are certainly not practical for sport flying where some real throttle control is required.
If you want 'proper' throttle control you will need an Electronic Speed Control (usually called an ESC). These devices are controlled from the throttle channel of the radio and operate the motor much like an I/C engine throttle, from tick-over to full throttle and all points between. Modern ESCs cover a wide range of applications and offer a sometimes bewildering range of features and facilities including BEC, Brakes and various startup safety features (more on these later).
An ESC will generally have 4 heavy wires, 2 red and black go to the battery (red +ve), the other 2 often yellow go to the motor. The positive lead to the motor will be marked. There will be another smaller cable, with 3 wires like a servo cable, which is plugged into the throttle channel on the receiver. Note that this is always plugged into the throttle channel even if the speed controller has the BEC feature and so is providing the power to the radio receiver.

Yeah I know. 93 MPH, wow, the fastest I've gotten my buggy to go was 54 MPH and it was an 11Tx3 motor...
What set up are you running? I just got the Mtroniks RV Eco 20 ESC. I loved the Tempo when I had it, so I got a Eco 20, I would try the new ESC they came out with, forgot the name at the moment. Maybe you know.
BTW, who do you talk to if you want to become a moderator??

As for being a mod - ask any of the admins, they are higher up than the moderators and they make the final decision.
As for the ESC - I am now using MTroniks new brushless ESC. I test their brushless stuff before they put it on the market and as changes are done I get to test them also. They are the sponsor of my speed car project. Their new ESC is called Genesis and the plane version is on the website now. The car version will be up soon.
I have tested and used both the car and plane version. The next one I am getting from them will handle up to 16 cells. The last one was supposed to be only 8 and I put 12 on before it blew up. I did the 93MPh using Schultz brushless ESC and a Colt 10 being the car. I do not like the Schulze ESC's. I thing they have false claims. The one I was using was supposed to handle 18 cells and it blew on 12. I had it setup as rear wheel drive only at the time. I am making a new chassis and motor mounts for it. From here on out I will only use MTroniks brushless ESC's.

I talked to RCadmin and He said that he sent something to PlaneInsane, the mod, and I never heard anything from him...
I run the cheap Eco 20 ESC, works great for about an hour 'till it gets to about 140 degrees

To be honest, I never knew them before they sponsored my car. A friend of mine introduced me to them. Now in my free time I get to test MTroniks new brushless stuff before they put it on the markey which is cool. I put their plane ESC's and motors in my cars since I dont fly and then i turn around and put their car stuff in the same car and compare the difference.
I think it is a lot fun. MTroniks is also where I got my Colt 10 from. It is not a popular car but it is fun to drive. I also have a Factory Team TC3 which I like. I am using both as test platforms to see what works best.
I know we can beat the 111MPh record, but now that RC Action is holding the world wide event for people to come from all over and break the world record. Now I question will I be fast enough. There are going to be many manufactures there and other people with unlimited money resources that can build their own cars.
So who knows.

It is not as easy as that.
If you are a good driver and win a lot of races. Everyone wants someone who wins or has something unique about them that stands out. Go to local shops in your area and ask for sponsorship. MTroniks is not far from my house as I am in the UK. A lot of places IF they sponsor a car they want it to be someone local. Hope that makes sense. I have a complete portfolio of my cars and stuff and have a marketing plan and such. It takes a lot of time and planning. A lot of calling and letter writing - getting people to believe in you and what you have to offer.

Yeah It does, I went to Hobby People, because I live about 4 miles from them, and I e-mailed them asking if they could sponsor me. They said that they don't have time or want to sponsor crappy Amatures. But I'm not crappy at all [:@], I won 4 out of 8 A-mains last season, 2 B-mains, and a C-main. I never got TQ though...
, Unique... as in? What makes you unique? or is it the fact that you are a really good driver? or that your are local? Hope this makes sense...

Those are things that sponsors look for.
For me - It is a long story. Kind of hard to put it all into words. I used to race a lot. Now I mostly bash around and test their new products and I am working to beat the world speed record. I will most likely make the event in California next July 2004 (I hope). I was working on this before that was ever anounced. I have had Venom Racing send me a few things as a one time deal. I have a couple other companies that also sponsor other parts for my car. Like http://www.modelelectronicscorp.com/ sponsors me for all my pinion gears.
I am finding it is not hard to break that 100MPh barier, but to get faster than that is not as easy as other people make it sound. It takes a lot of work and it is not just adding a lot of batteries to a chassis. If it were that easy anyone enough money would do it. I find once you get over 50 - 60 MPh the car is not very easy to control at all. I have been working on this for almost a year now. Just the design and planning alone takes a lot of work and time. I now make some of my own RC parts on a CNC Mill.
And on that other site where they are bickering about not enough room to get up to speed. If you go to far you can no longer see the car to control it. Anyhoo - I can go on and on. Help this helps.

It is July, I live in Cali, when is the test? and where? I am looking for sponsors at the moment. I've tried Pro-Line, they said in like 4-6 months, Tried Hobby People, didn't work out, Epic never replied, neither did Trinity. I just sent Integy and Mtroniks a letter of sponsorship requested about 15 min ago. So I dunno. I may try RRP for my pinions, and Kyosho, since I run Kyosho Trucks. I may also try Peak Racing, since I use their batteries. So I dunno. I'm not looking for the money or free stuff, just to have fun, and get something while I'm at it.

Quote from link I posted above:
The event will be scheduled not earlier than June 1, 2005 (exact date to be announced) and will take place at the Irwindale Speedway in Irwindale, CA. Stay tuned to RC Car Action and rccaraction.com for details.
I think it will be cool to see what manufactures show up and what kind of cars people try to enter with.
