I got a Nitro for my first one and I love it. Only electric I've ever driven is a nykko so I'm probably Bias. But my first decent car was nitro and I've had no problems really. But granted though my father doesn't know anything about RC he is extremely mechanically inclined so if things breaks, he fixes.

i dont think i would ever want an electric. sure theyre simple but nothing is as good to me as hearing a nitro truck screaming down a football pitch. but each to their own i spose. if your mate is hell bent on nitro, tell him to get a second hand one. that way if he hates it he hasnt wasted too much money.

also if he hates it and sells it on again, if hes clever, he may get back what he paid for it and not lose any money at all. that means he can then get an electric. god im clever

to even say something like that infers you are not totally comfortable with your sexuality[:-]

i prefer nitro myself.i started with electric long ago.but after a big motor and waiting for battery charge time i hated it.the motor and speed control i used was good for 7 minutes or so.two battery packs wasnt enough to keep me running with out waiting on a battery.another thing to consider is budget.i have had more "accidents" with my nitros than the electric and nitros are faster most of the time.whichs translates to breakage if you loose control and have a runaway.now that i can afford just about anything i need /want its not an issue.nitros are funner but take time to tune, and can be dirty.electrics are nice for beginners and for indoor carpet racing but not alot more.(sorry to those who may prefer them over nitro cars).which ever way he goes is gonna be up to him in the long run.

I dont see how a nitro car can be more "manly" than an electric.
Thats like saying a screwdriver is more manly than an electric drill, which one would you rather use?

Ok sorry dude i thought you'd missed it
they both have their merits & are both fast & fun but for someone like me who grew up on a diet of racing motocross & shifter karts it just has to have a 2 stroke engine! so (for me) its nitro all the way
i strongly urge everyone if they ever get the chance to drive a 250cc shifter Kart, you won't believe how fast those things are[X(]

I hate electrics. I HATE ELECTRICITY!!!! The computer I'm using at the moment is gas powered, I'm an anti-enviormentalist, I have a sniper rifle in my room I use to pick off Green piece activists, I wear fur, I eat beef, I drive my 17ltr car....
I even hate electric hairdryers, [link=http://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/m_2819938/anchors_2826157/mpage_1/key_/anchor/tm.htm#2826157]chreck out my NITRO HAIRDRYER![/link]

ok im not sure if manly was the right word. maybe beefy or meaty then.
its like a harley sounds more "manly" than a scooter. thats what i meant (extreme example, not saying electrics are crappy scooters)

. Hey, can all you guys help me with my nitro hairdryer project (link above) please. All the guys in the Unusual RC forum seem half asleep, either that or they just hate giving advise....
Thanks.
