we decided to do what out hobby store did and put 55 gallon barrels inside our jumps to use less dirt. i found somebody who has 27 of them that i can have for free
. we figured we could put them inside the berms and jumps since we already have a 5 foot deep hole for one tabletop that is 1 1/2 feet tall[:'(]. we want a couple of jumps that are maybe 4 feet tall and maybe an even bigger one at the start/finish line.

I'm still in the middle of the long process of building a track. The track is 100 by 150 so its alot of work just keeping the weeds down---spray, weed whack and repeat! Anyway, about using drums or barrels for filler. I've talked to individuals who have built several tracks over the years and they recommend NOT to use any filler. The only thing that sticks to dirt is dirt. With use the drums will poke through and you'll end up doing some patching. That being said, I have seen tracks that do use that in the construction, so its not unheard of.

Here's a link to where you can see building a track in progress. Me and a friend of mine started on that project just over a month ago.

I've buried wood logs and pallets under my jumps and berms. And, yes, you will "wear" your way down to the "stuff" underneath.....but, I think it's worth it. Because it saves a lot of finding all that extra dirt. Plus, when it starts to show thru.....that just means you need to do some maintanence. It's not that hard......just skim the surface of the areas around the jumps/berms(that where all the dirt went!) and put it back on top. I mean, if you're talking jumps 4' high.....wow.....you are looking to move a crap-load of dirt......and burying something will REALLY help eliminate moving so much dirt.
My backyard track took me several weeks to complete......would've taken much more longer if I didn't bury anything. That was a time saver!
Good luck and post pics!

Can't do any video at this point, the track is not completed yet. As far as racing it's intended mostly for 1/8 scale buggies, truggies and monster trucks.

oh ya, heres a video of RC18T on the track. I also drive my 10th trucks and also practice driving lines with my 8th buggy sometimes. I cant wait to try my CRT.5 on it... soon enough.

well we were able to get a few barrels for the track. we have three in a berm, and two in a jump. we want to make a tabletop with six barrels placed in two rows of three. my friend and i just started college so it is going kind of slow but if we get some more, it should be done real soon.

all you need to do is google rc race tracks in the images area and you will see lots of tracks... as for the type of "dirt" to use, i found that clay works the best.. it packs in the best, holds its shape well and wont dry out as quickly as topsoil. good luck with the construction phase of your track!

thanks already got estimates on some yard equipment that are needed such as a multipurpose dingo cost about 200 per day which should be plenty of time if i get 2 days off in a row with a handful of friends just gonna take some time. the corrugated tubing isnt too bad in price 18.97/50'. gonna need about 360' of it so got most of the idea down, just have to wait for this rain to stop in texas so we can get started...
