I've worked with lexan before (not for rc's) and when it starts to get small it gets kinda brittle. If it cracks at all or gets scratched it is very prone to breaking on those places. I think that there would be much better materials to make them out of.

Lexan I thought might be able to take the punishment, If Carbon fiber can take it why not the Lexan. Sure shock towers maybe a bit too stressful for the lexan, but if milled correctly should do good for the frame, just not sure what the flexibility would be compared to billet. 3mm of aluminum isnt all that strong compared to the lexan. Just was wondering if it was worth experimenting with. Ive done alot of work with poly carbonites and 1/4 lxan will take a good bit of abuse. It will stop a 22 round at 25 yards. Any1 tried anything like it b4, maybe carbon fiber or T6 aluminum? It would be worth it If you could cut out a 100 grams.

I haven't used lexan, but I have used plexi-glass for stuff like that. I'm in the process of building a new chassis for my Wild Dagger out it. I've used it for body mounts on my Stampede and mini tank chassis too.

Well, you're right lexan can stop a bullet (so can plex for that matter) but the key there is surface area to soread and dissapate the impact. My father, a machinest, worked for a company in the 70's that made bullet proof shields to go between the front and back seats of police cars and they used plexiglass that was thick enough to stop a .38 round. If you'll look though, I said that when lexan gets small it get's brittle and once you drill mounting holes for the shocks there won't be much material left to support the shock in roll overs and crashes.
But as 125cchyperman said, give it a try and let everybody the results. I know I'd be intrested in how it works.

Oh and Carbon Fiber is much stronger than lexan because of it's molecular structue. The stuff is designed to be strong and light weight.
