Default Direct drive (no gears)

I was just wondering would it be posible to produce a RC car that has no gears or a 1to1 gear ratio?? if you could it would be insane fast!!

Gears help --- they don't hurt. Most engines can't provide enough power for 1:1 ratios. It would take 45 seconds to reach top speed on a level surface and most engines would overheat, not climb hills and never go off road.

Are you talking gas or electric? Gas/nitro you gotta have gears, for reasons like Philster said. Electric cars you could do it with, basically pan cars are direct drive.

You could do it with a slow or high torque motor, Ive seen it done somewhere.

I was refering to nitro but i do love mini elect's, so why cant you do it in a nitro?

nitro engine usually make there power at about 30,000 rpm, and do not have enough torque to run a car direct drive, most have a reduction of about 10-25:1 from the engine to wheels.

over at rczone brushless, a guy was making a buggy with 2 brushless outrunners shafted directly into the diffs. each motor was pumping more than like 1000 watts of power.
