Default Need help troubleshooting an Emaxx

I just picked up an Emaxx, cheap.
Check it out here.

http://www.traxxas.com/products/elec.../trx_emaxx.htm

I was told it had some moisture damage. I am just getting back into RCing but what I know is gliders and such, and not a whole lot about that.

It came complete with batteries but no charger. Which charger should I get for this setup? Also when I turn everything on the steering seems to work, but the throttle does not. If I jockey the throttle back and forth fwd-rev, the tires will make a sudden surge maybe a 1/2inch but thats it and not consistently. What should I look for as the culprit? I appreciate any help in troubleshooting this problem.

I'd recommend the 977 MRC charger if you're using nimh packs.

Let it set for an hr and if it works then, you have the esc maxxed out for voltage and can either lose one battery cell or send in for replacement/fix. No guaruntee that the replacement will do any higher.

Gulp,
That charger cost 10 times what I paid for the truck, I told you I got it cheap. Would this charger also work for other batteries, like Lipos and ones that may be used in aircraft and gliders?

Wow, you go t a great deal on the truck.

It is listed as a lipo charger, but a lot of users/manufacturers will not recommend it for lipos.

If wanting to cheap it out then maybe a cheap timer charger can be had for under $10

I think this refers to the ESC, (since rx and steering servo is working) Thats why you got it cheap.

If batteries were the problem, then I would not include it in the deal (if I am seller)

977 MRC cost about $100.00, so your e-maxx cost you only $10 bucks, now thats cheap! LOL. I love cheap RC stuff too!

There are many types of chargers out there, the basic wall charger AC 7.2v for nicads would be the cheapest under 10$.

If you are using nimh, then it would cost more.

AC/DC operation, timed or peak, trickle charge, multi amp rate, discharge function, lipo etc etc. More features means more expensive.

977 MRC is best value at 100.00 with multi featured and lipo compatible.

Its an expensive hobby!

Yes I paid $10 for it. I was at the local thrift store in Jackson Wyoming, looking for used XC ski boots for my girlfriend. I heard someone asking about the car in the other room, where "new" are received. Someone had donated it and said there was possibly some moisture damage and said it should be fixable for around $40 (this was second hand from the thrift store employee) but he did not have the time so he donated it. It looks unused.
This is the land Millionaires are being displaced by the Billionaires.

I will check to see what kind of batteries are in it (NiMH or Nicad) when I get home. Is there an all around charger that would work on these batteries and smaller ones for RC aircraft?
Thanks
PP

PS my girlfriend was scowling/smirking at me when I was looking at it, but now she realizes it is a monster truck and her 3 year old nephew who is a big fan of monster trucks..... She is now onboard with this project.

Try the Hobbico MKII, it's dual charger that does 3 types of batts for under $50

WOW!!!! Thats dirt cheap! I got mine for $100.00 with alum upgrades and batteries and in excellent shape(see my models).

Our thrift stores here in SD, CA doesnt have RC squat! mostly probably who owns them knows where and how much to re-sell them, like garage sales, swap meets, local hobby shops and even in craigslist.

This is also a good choice, but just to point out its a field charger, runs on 12v-15v DC only.

I read a note in the box with the Emaxx from the owner. It might be the ESC or it might be the motors. I'll have to swing by the LHS to have them help me figure it out. No rush though as there is at least 2 feet of snow anywhere I would run this.

Thanks for the heads up on that charger, I like the fact that it can charge a variety of batteries.
What does a field charger mean? Do I run it off my cars DC system? I am willing to pay more for a charger, provided it can do many different type of batteries, I imagine I will be using Lithium based batteries in my gliders. Will the superbrain charger work on small batteries as well?
