Default Removing paint?

Hi,

I need to remove some paint from a body shell. I know that brake fluid and nitro fuel can be used, but I do not want to buy a can just for a small amount. Can I use white spirit? Any suggestions?

ahhhh, this is good to know! Everything I've tried ruined the Lexan (not paint-thinner of course). I was told by my lhs to dillute nail-polish remover 6/4.... still whited out my body.

I don't care what you use, and I've tried a lot of different things, nothing is going to get all the paint off the inside of a properly painted shell. Some things will get part (even most) of it off - but most of those things will cloud or melt the lexan. If you just need to clean up a little detail then acetone and q-tips work pretty well. If you need to do a big area then you're better off getting a new body and starting fresh.

On rare and discontinued bodies that are still in good shape, I've seen some great things done when the body is repainted on the outside. It is more difficult to keep the paint nice, but it can be done. I suppose you would need some kind of gloss to give it shine and as a means of sealing the paint down.

nitro fuel with little oil % and high nitro % does the trick, doesnt cloud either =] (body needs a serious clean to remove oil after though)
