Diffs locked or not???

Default Diffs locked or not???

Here is what I know.

Diffs work well when both wheels have good contact on the ground. When turning, more power is transfered to the outer wheel because in needs to travel more than the inner wheel.

Lock diffs have constant power on both wheels at all times even when one wheel is not touching the ground, required for crawlers.

Here is the Questions:

Is it good to lock the diffs on a Duratrax Delphi F1?
Is it good to lock the diffs on a Tamiya TT-01 and/or an AE TC3, both for drifting? For racing?

When purchasing a used RC, do you consider a locked diff as a custom mod?

If you''re racing you definitely don''t want to lock the rear diff. Some people do run lock diffs (spool) in the front on 4wds though. For drifting some people do lock a diff and others dont. I definitely wouldn't lock the diff on the F1 unless you're looking to make a drag car. Locking the diff will make it want to spin around corners.

As for when buying a used R/C I wouldn''t buy one with a locked diff unless it was a rock crawler. Most people use jb weld to lock the diff which is irreversible.

BTW Has anyone noticed that when you use an apostrophe in RCU it adds a second one right next to it which makes it look like you used quotation marks by mistake. For a few days I thought it was my keyboard doing this but then I noticed others having the same problem.

If you want grip NEVER lock the rear diff. If you lock the front diff you gain speed while exiting a corner. If you wat to drift then locking the rear diff is the way to make the rear end of the car spin...

Locking a diff is good when you want to go in a straight line, need power to both wheels at all times, or want to slide. Otherwise you should probably leave it alone or add some really heavy fluid.

I see it clearly now.

I just got 2 used Duratrax F1, first I was surprised that there is a rear diff.

They were spinning out of control because the diff is locked with some type of glue.

Do pan type cars like RC12 have rear diffs also?

Yes, pan cars have a ball differential.

What color is the glue? It could be JB weld which is an epoxy. Jb weld is gray, if thats the case then it''s time to look for new parts. If its clear glue then it''s probably hot glue which can be picked off.

if you are a basher you want to lock the rear diff, the bashing ability increases at least 20%, drifting wise I would lock both the front and rear, its a much more predictable drift, usually a diff in the front is a bad idea, you loose turn in but gain run out, as for the guy that said add thicker oil thats fine except for 80% of rc cars don''t use oil diffs....sqaure racing makes a very nice spool for the tt 01, order a couple and your drifting will become much easier on pvc
