Default now this is a real buggy !!!!!

Here are some shots of my FG Modellsport 1/6th scale buggy. Its a Marauder, but im converting it to a Mitsubishi Pajero. I changed out almost every piece of plastic to aluminum. hydraulic disk brakes on all 4 wheels, 2 speed gear box, 26 bore kit for the zenoah engine, adjustable slip diff , etc ...

i still have to change the shocks out for adjustable ones, and finishe the radio component set up ... (2 1/4 scale 170 oz servos for steering, and 2 more servos for throttle amd brake master cylinders ....

Default now this is a real buggy !!!!!

check out www.fg-america.com or www.netshop.nl for 1/5 and 1/6 scale cars.

FG-America has a full color online catalog available, but i always buy from www.netshop.nl , they are way better with service, faster in shipping, and always have all parts in inventory ..

the disk brakes come in a special kit (about $450 for a set of 2, either front or back )

My futaba radio has an ABS function which pulses the brake srvo, it works awesome on the hydraulic brakes ! i have the same st up on my on road 1/5 scale car ...

You should be careful about using the abs feature. Don't set the pulse rate too high or you will reduce the life expectancy of your brake servos.

Think of the controller board in the servo like an ESC (which it is btw), constant forward/reverse slams generates heat and current spikes in both the motor and ESC (which causes the damage).

You can use the ABS feature without servo damage if you take the time to set the delay, pulse rate, and pulse sweep (servo travel per pulse cycle).

I am running hydraulic brakes on my FG EVO (1/5 scale sedan) in conjuction with the ABS feature on my KO Mars radio. Use a delay in excess of a half second (so it doesn't pulse during momentary braking). The pulse rate shouldn't be any faster than 2-3 times per second. The servo travel per pulse should be minimized so it goes from drag brake to the point of the brakes locking up.

Default now this is a real buggy !!!!!

thats good info, i have my 1/5 Evo set up that way ... im not sure how i will set the ABS on the buggy (if at all) as I think i will want it locking up for some fun drifting action ) im actually thinking os setting up the rear brakes and a 3rd channel, so i can just lock the back when i want to (rally racing style drifts , and still brake with front and back durring regular braking, i have to figure out how i will be doing this ...

im also concidering using a heading hold gyro (from one of my rc helis) for the stearing on both my 1/5 scale cars .... that way the car auto corrects and oversteer, and automatically performs perfect drifts on turns. I have experimented with this on my 1/8 kanai 2, and it works awesome. I can throw the car into a driftin turn, let go if the wheel when its pointing where i want it , and the gyro keeps the car on that heading, or brings it back to it if it over steers/skids over ...

with the 2 speed, the off road buggy shoud hit about 65 ... the on road cars do about 70 with a 2 speed transmision. does not sound like a lot, but this is a 15 lbs car !! hit something with that at 60 mph !!

You've got to be kidding? I'd be afraid of a wipe out at those speeds, you'd think parts would break just from that. Forget hitting something.

Well, I was waiting for something deserving to use my 100th post on, and this is it!
I think you ought to set up a shrine to that buggy and sacrifice goats to the R/C gods!!!
That is an awesome machine and a hate you passionately!!!!
(only joking)
Good luck with the project. Any chance of a nice juicy video when your done?

Trust me when I say you don't have to be rich. You just have to be foolish with your money (groceries or HPI MicroRS4....Micro New TV or FG EVO....EVO).

I have a gyro on my electric pan car. I just need to install a better RX so I can set the rate on the gyro.

I did this because I dropped a 13turn triple in it and even geared WAY up it still spins the tires at the drop of a hat. even at top end on 3/4 throttle if I give it the last bit the back end breaks loose.

light car + load power = no control

gyros work real good for 2wd on road, but for anything else it kinda hurts it a bit. like in offroad you want to slid the back end out... you dont want the gyro fighting you.

Unstable, I've thrown a single axis JR gyro in my losi nitro truck and it does allow you to overdrive the track (AKA spinning around for corners). You just have to change your radio inputs and resist the temptation to counter steer. When you ask for full left, the gyro is countersteering to give a constant rate of change in rotation. Sensitivity adjustments can improve performance as well.

screw the sound !! get the Samba pipe, and the 26cc big bore kit !! you will almost double the HP !!!

add a 2 speed transmision and you are FLYING !!!! I did not believe Ron (from netshop.nl ) at first , but just as he told me, the car WHEELIES !!!! in first gear and pops a quick wheelie when kicking into 2nd .... ,

you can always add on all these components one at a time as you go ...... these cars are awesome !!!
