What Kit's would y'all suggest for a beginner?

1/18? 1/16? 1/10? 1/8?
car? truck? truggy? monster truck? buggy?
electric? nitro?

I want to start off with electric and I like the looks of a Truggy. I'd like to have a 1/10 scale.

I don't off hand know of any 1/10 electric truggies unfortunately. maybe someone else does.

Lots of 1/10 eletric stadium trucks (2WD) and buggies (4wd) and monster trucks.

For truggies you mostly have to go to 1/8 nitro.

Ok what 1/10 electric stadium trucks would you suggest and also what buggies would you suggest? I'm wanting to get into the hobby and at first I was going to buy a 1/18 Team Losi Mini-DT but it comes ready to run. I want to learn how everything is put together and how everything works so I thought maybe a kit would be better but I don't know.

Depends on what you want to do. Do you want to race or bash or both? Racing I would definetly go with the b44 if you want to bash go with the db01. These are 1/10 buggies btw.

I don't want to race not yet anyway. I'm just wanting to mess around with them at the house right now.

Tamiya kits are great to start with. Excellent instructions, categorized parts bags, etc. great intro to kit building.

Once you start building kits you'll never want to buy an RTR again.

Like sheo said tamiya kits are very easy to build as long as you follow instruction. I bought the db01 as my first rc car and didn't have any problems that weren't user error.

How much does the Tamiya DB01 run?

The DB01 is around $200 generally.

Man! I don't know if I have that kinda money right now I'm 19 still going to college and just working part time. What do ya'll think about me getting the Team Losi Mini-DT right now and adding all kinds of Hop Ups? Do y'all think that would be a good learning experience for me?

Yeah, it will be.

The Mini DT/T/Baja platform is good, lots of hop up options.

Personally, for that size of vehicle most of the hop ups are bling and don't actually improve the performance that much. I'd just leave it stock and save up for a 1/10.

to add my few cents, i have an evader st. i wanted to learn more about how they work so i took the whole thing apart and put it back together. that also works well.

evaders are pretty good starting cars and the new ext version starts at $120 an all you need is are batteries, although i would recommend a charger. and in the electric truck section there is a thread there with over 500 pages of info and we are willing to help. do you have any hobby shops near you? you best bet would be to go down there and see what they carry, maybe ask them some questions on what they like. you don't want to have to wait all week on a part your hobby shop doesn't have! there are a couple brands i would look into.

HPI
team associated
team losi

these brands are very well known and have great customer support. HPI and Traxxas make some of the toughest cars but they will also cost you. duratrax is more of a cheaper brand and they are make a good starter car. team associated and team losi are more race cars but they also have some good bashers and starters these will also cost you. tamiya is a little of both and they have been around forever! they make pretty quality car but there isn't alot of aftermarket from them, same with duratrax cars.

the mini scene is pretty big if thats what you want to get into. in that scale you can't do much to a car to change it unless you are adding a new motor. they are mainly for street bashing and small jumps. don't expect to do anything big with 1/18 scale. 1/10 if a little of everything category. big jumps big speed. 1/8 is a race category and a monster truck category. if you go 1/8 you will drop a lot of cash. 1/5 is BIG. big money big jumps. 1/5 run on 2-stoke motors and i doubt you want one because they will put you back about $1000. if i were you i would buy the evader, do some hop-ups, save for a nice car. i personally have both 1/18 and 1/10 and I'm buying a 1/5 soon. i hate my 1/18 because it is very hard to work on and i love my evader and have had it for 4 years, they are very reliable but the first thing you will do will be changing the electronics.

Ok guys so what if I buy the Team Losi Mini-DT and add all kinds of Hop Ups and take it all apart and put it back together like that one dude did. Then after that I may step up into the Evader. What do ya'll think?
