will a 6 channel radio work with with only 2 channels hooked up to it?
about 5 months ago the radio gear to my savage got fried. Subsequently, my savage got put on the shelf. I figure that the cheapest way for me to go is to buy an additional receiver for my 2.4ghz helicopter radio and just stick that in my savage. I really have no problem with using a stick transmitter as opposed to a pistol. Would that work or would there be some mix up with only 2 servos hooked up?

it will work fine except that if you put throttle on the left then it won't spring back to center so controlling it is a little weird. or you can put throttle on the right stick which will spring back to center and put steering on the left.

If you can fly a heli, two controls on one stick should not be too much of a challange after the first couple of minutes of geting used to it.
