All I can say is good luck. Get some extra diffs, drive shafts and dog bones. I have 2 savages and the aftershock and have yet to replace any drivetrain part on the aftershock. Savage is a great truck but you will break some diffs and driveline parts. The Aftershock is a stronger truck.

Yes its all steel but its kinda weak. They do have stronger upgrades you can use as you break. I upgraded the rear drive shaft to a HotBodies long travel cvd and still have everything else stock. I go through at least 1-2 dog bones every half gallon on my savages. I have been through about 2 diffs each with about 4 gallons. If slipper is set slightly loose it will help but they tend to loosen up easily so I keep mine tight.

My brother inlaw has slowly replaced all the dogbones with CVDs on his Savage 25....The rear diff case is almost shot, but he discovered that the case has to sets of slots for the spider shafts.....His is strictly a basher, so spending lots of money on it is'nt his thing....My Aftershock still has all the original drivetrain parts excpt it has an LST2 aluminum clutch....

The Savage is a nice truck but IMHO it gets more props than it deserves. To hear some people talk it never gives any problems or breaks. But if you look past the Rah, Rah hype and watch the forums you'll see the same folks that are talking it up asking how to fix the same kind of issues every other truck has.
I'm not tearing the truck down, I like mine but it's not really any better (or worse) than my other trucks and I've got a T-Maxx, Revo and LST in addation to the Savage.

Aftershock is a tough truck and does not get the credit it deserves. I think the drivetrain is darn near bulletproof. With the LRp it is the fastest truck I have owned other than my Jatos'. It smokes my savages with the same engine.

+1, the LST2 is a tank! That is what I would do or just get a LST2. I have seen both and the Aftershock/LST2 is way better and also more raceable if you wanted to race too. Handles way better.

Biggest fanboy on RCU by far!

Either truck will serve you well. Personally I would go with the Savage.

What no bad things?[:-] I can bet that you see way more bad things about the savage over the aftershock. Actually I dont think you will read much bad at all about the AS. So if you dont mind dealing with blown diffs, broken dog bones and drive shafts then yah its an awsome truck.

One thing I have noticed with the Savage is that to repair or do simple maintenance on the drive line, you have to disassemble half the truck. My Aftershock takes removing about 6 screws, and the whole diff will slide straight out.....

The Savage X and XSS only needs 6 screws removed also and the diff slides out. Its super simple to work on. The older ones are a pain to work on. I think its just as easy as the aftershock

Just to add, I have a Savage 25, it was my first nitro. Bashed it pretty hard for 3 years and all I have had to replace is screws, and a bent shock.

You dont need the LST2 upgrade but alot of guys do it anyways. 140.00 for upgrade. Not all really worth it.

Aluminum front and rear differential housings (Aftershock already has aluminum housings)
New reinforced front and rear suspension arms ( convert to RPM a arms)
New revised front spindles and carriers for the oversized axles and bearings
New oversized Super-Duty CV Driveshafts for the front and rear
New larger front and rear axles
Oversized ball bearings for the larger axles
New one-piece rear hub carriers for the oversized axles and bearings
Revised chassis side rails with new inner gear cover
New outer hinge pins for the reinforced arms
New larger 20mm wheel hexes
New 420 series front and rear wheels (These also fit 40-Series Pro-Line tires, available separately)
New transmission case set with revised Hi/Low gear selector
New inside secondary gear cover

You already made up your mind to get one, even before you made that poll in the truck forum. You should have just ran to the store a long time ago and bought one and be done with it.

Difference's between the LST1/Aftershock & the LST2

The Up Grade kit is and always was $110 at a main (Put it in your cart to see the Price) And the DriveTrain Parts Alone are worth it......

The Aftershocks a pretty good truck....But 14mm hex's & 6mm Axles are Old school these Days.....IMO
