Default Scammers on RCU

I am not one to be accusing anyone of anything without a darn good reason, but how do I contact someone or the people in charge of this site to keep an eye on suspicious new members? I just got an offer on my slayer that is in the marketplace, and it looks fishy without a doubt... first off the english is terrible, second they offer to pay extra for shiping and then have their boss's shipping company pick the truck and the shipping fee up from me after I cash the check? Sorry wasn't born yesterday, and have seen enough Yahoo and Craigslist scams to know this is definately fishier than a catfish. Notice this member's join date is today....

Out of curiosity has anyone else been contacted by this individual? if so did they receive a similar offer? I replied stating I would accept paypal only, but all the same this is very suspicious, and I think the mods oe whoever is in charge of the marketplace needs to know about it.

Also it starts saying thanks for the mail??? I never sent anyone anything regarding this sale directly... and have a link to this offer posted in the corresponding ebay auction for the same vehicle, so people can just come here to see additional pics of the vehicle.

here'
s a link to the Ad:
http://www.rcuniverse.com/market/item.cfm?itemID=534578

here is the body of the offer pasted below.

you guys see what I mean then, bummer Nigeria has found our little spot... JK LOL, anyways, I just sent a PM to RCAdmin who is the site admin, and will hopefully get a reply soon... I freeking hate scammers, Liars, thieves... but the worl is full of em... I had no doubt this is shady, but wanted to post this thread also so others who may be more naieve get an idea as to what a typical scam offer looks like also... It is good to have other's opinions on this sort of stuff as well, and will help keep RCU a safer place to do business...

Please file a complaint in the RCU marketplace-

The marketplace mod will get them on the scammers list quickly.

just tried, but got a message that I cannot report that person since we have not engaged in any dealings... all there is on the ad is the post I pasted above, and my reply, so reporting him through the marketplace doesn't look like it will work... I just wanted to make it known more than anything so others are aware of this individual.

here is the message I got when I tried reporting it as suggested.

We found no ads in which you and bob.cane0102 engaged in any official offers or bids using the ad response tools provided on RCU. You may only report abuse in connection with transactions that are officially logged on RCU.

Shoot, sorry about that. Contact the Marketplace moderator via PM and he can shut the guy down. Thanks for following up to keep the scammers at bay.

after everything got settled with this i found it kind of funny because the scammer's grammar was really bad and seemed rather obvious it was a scam. i wonder if those people know most people know about the scams but i am sure that wont stop them because even if one person falls for it they will continue to try it.

That's it exactly. When you consider that they probably scan for hundreds or thousands of add every day even a very tiny percent of hits nets them a lot of cash. That, and greed, is why the nigerian scam still works.

And scams are not limited to the internet. My particular favorite is the TV add for freecreditreport.com. They are NOT free. The only place you can get your credit report totally free is anualcreditreport.com, the rest of the so called free sites are really for profit companys who are trying to lure the unsuspecting into paying for something you do not have to.

Nice job catching that one. i have seen and experenced this same scam on Craigslist. When i got that same message about a car I was selling, it didn't look right and it came the day after I sold it.
What I have herd happens is they give you a check for some redicouls amount, you deposit it give them the item and the cash then the check bounces and you are out of luck. Not only do you loose the thing you sold but have to come up with the cash to cover the bad check.

Ya I have read about this scam numerous times, and get this.. the next day I got an email from yet another scammer who was responding to my AD... instead of making an offer they emailed me directly... the person's email was [email protected] which I reported to RCU Admins just in case they try to set up camp here...

One thing I have noticed is that alot of scammmers use Yahoo emails for some reason, be it craigslist, myspace, or anywhere that is usually a good indicator that something is amiss!

but yeah broken english, and insistence on paying by check just doesn't fly with me personally... especially when they want personal info like a phone number and my address.

I know how to identify a scam when I see one... the upside to this thread is so others can easily identify when they are about to be had! also to bring awareness to the rest of the community and the mods and admins that we have some shady folk trying to work on our turf

Oh and Oval you left out the part where the authorities come after you for being an accomplice in a scam sceme... At least in california they do... Had it happen to a couple of friends ho blindly walked into it, and thought they got a deal till johnny law cam a knocking asking questions...

my wifes cousin almost fell for that trick selling a car and I had happened to already know about the nigerian scams so i got word back to her in time that it was a raw deal. yeah the money order scams can get you in trouble as well.

Very true, I signed up for that once, then looked at my CC bill the next month and saw all these additional carges for the credit report, fraud protection, government grants, and some other crap... plus I was getting hit for a "foreign currency fee"... they were all small charges like 1.00 here and there, but all combined that came enough of a cost to equal 1 nnew RC car over the course of a year... I don't sign up for anything that asks for my CC or any financial info at all anymore...

You should have pulled a P-p-p-powerbook with this guy. It would've been awesome.
