Hi,
My 1:8 scale buggy spins the front wheels like crazy and I want to know if I can lock the mid diff? I would use some glue or something.

If they're not then your rear differential is probably messed up.
Dont ever put glue in your differential.

no that's not the problem. When accelerating I just loose way to much power on the front wheels.

Ok so your getting more power to the fronts.
Well an open differential will give more power to the side that spins easiest.
IF nothing is blocking the rear side.. then something is definitely up.
If you hold the car in your hand and give it gas.. does the rear turn at the same rate as the front wheels?

yes if i pick up my car. push the throtle a bit open then both (front & rear) go on the same speed. My problem is just that if I'am running the car and I hit WOT that the front wheels slip way to much. I want the rear wheels to get more power. That's why I wanted to lock the mid diff.

think weight transfer. you gun it. the weight shifts back on the rears... they grab... the fronts lighten up and slip... the power goes to the wheels that spin easier.
you should know this

if its a gear driven diff you can use silly putty as a test to lock the diff. or if you can get it try the lube that tweety is talking about.
if you like it fully locked you can use jbweld.... but there is no going back from that.

ok i have a ofna pirate 10 and i locked the diff. do this and u wont go wrong because i wore down the stock tires less than a week because of all the power going to the front. so i got soem new dirt hawgs and decided i had to do somethign about that diff. take it apart and put the gears in different spotsif u do it right u will see that the gears toutch each other and wont allow each other to spin. it never gave me any probs yet and ive been through 2 engines. plus u could always fix it how u had it if u decide u want the diff to work. just fool with it and something will come up.

If I would lock the diff, the front wheels won't spin unless the rear also do. But will I damage something else? I am not a big jumper.

shouldnt damage anything...but it will make handling diffrent.
on most MTs and 4wd STs there is no center diff. like my savage is a solid shaft in the tranny going to the front and the rear driveshafts.

All I can say is.. DOH!!!
Dude that day I messed up everything.. gess that extendd to RCU also.
sigh
But hey were all entittled to our "brain dead" days right?
I'm actually pretty pissed.. its been raining and the forcast is.. rain for like another 2 days or something here.. got flash flood warning and tornado warning out the wazoo.
Btw.. I heard that mugens have a taller gearing to the front to help this situation. Dunno if I messed up somewhere but when I gun it (with it sittin on the starter box), my back wheels "flare out" more than the fronts. IF this ratio holds true on the ground, the dang things gonna be very tail happy!

My Mugen MBX-XR Works didnt come with a underdrive/overdrive gear set up at all, all the gears have the same teeth. The spur is 44T, the pinion are 40T Front/Rear, and the little spur gears in the diffs are 12T.
It sounds as though perhaps this buggy at some point had a front overdrive gear setup installed. This would make the front overdrive more than the rear(front diff spins more revolutions respective to the rear diff), you could fix this by simply counting and matching the front and rear diff teeth.
I would do this for starters, but you can always lock up the center diff if you like...... Although if the overdrive gear IS the problem, locking the center wont help at all.....NOR will locking the rear.....or the center AND the rear! Count the teeth buddy, and be done with it.
