Hi All,
I'm new to this site. I've been involved in RC ever since my dad came home with my first Tamiya Rough Rider, in the late 70's, I raced offload buggies for a minute at the" Ranch Pit Shop" in Pomona, Ca back when Gil Losi Jr. was just a kid. Anyway I've been an avid "Vintage" guy ever since I can remember, and have collected many things from old school bmx from the early 80's to old VW' s and Harley's. Recently I found this pretty cool Kyosho Fantom EP-4wd Ext B.W. Spider that appears to be built but in UN-used condition. I was wondering if there are any vintage guys here who may have some information on this car. Thanks in advance.

How rare are these cars and how hard is it to get replacement parts? I'd love to build this car to drive but if the parts are too hard to find, then maybe it we just be a shelf queen.
Thanks.
Thanks.

My Feedback: (11)
I have one as a shelf queen and one I drive on the odd occasion. Parts are scarce. If you have a new or even gently used one, I would put it on a shelf as a conversation piece. I've brought them to the track when people are interested in seeing them. If you tear up a differential, you will not find another.

This is one of my favorite cars. I have three of them - one built in new condition for the shelf, one NIB, and another that is very gently used that I am planning on running soon. As with all of these old school pan cars, you just need a really smooth surface to run them on... a pebble can ruin your day. Parts are absolutely impossible to find, but the car is simple enough to where you can get creative to replace something as long as it's not something crucial like a sprocket for that chain drive. This is the only chain-driven 4WD 1/12 car I've ever seen...but if you get it running right, it's great fun. It's handling is very unique. I just wish I had a local carpet track where I could run it more often.

I'm wondering which electronics/servo you're going with? I'm looking at the smallest receiver I can find that's from Futaba or just FHSS compatible, and a suitable motor. I don't think I'll spend the dough on Kyosho's fancy Le Mans gear this time.

I like to keep the vintage look. On the Fantom re re, I'll use the kyosho esc and probably the 13.5 turn LeMans gold motor. On the crc fantom re re, I put a 4.5 turn Hobbywing motor and hobbywing esc. I know its too much but I just like knowing its there. I have a Flysky Noble transmitter. For the Plazma, Ill use the kyosho esc, and the 13.5 turn Lemans gold motor.
