The lexan shell I bought from Time Tunnel as they were the cheapest place I could find - worked out to £24 including the postage.

RE: Return of Lunchbox..
Well last night was my 2nd test - this time with the 18t Hornet pinion gear. Still no video as I was there with only one other person who was also driving! The pinion has made a huge difference! Top speed is now pretty much equal to the Hotshot running a 15t pinion. He is upgrading to a 17t pinion which will widen the gap again - but hopefully not too far!
It has now highlighted another problem - grip - or lack of! Strangely due to the huge increase in gearing I now have more of a grip issue than I did before I assume because I am approaching the corners much much faster! I really dont want to move away from the Mad Bull wheels as I want the 'Box to look as stock as possible. I will start a search - I dont want to use sticky pin spikes like the buggies do as I think that will offer too much grip. I want something in between that will still fit the 2 inch wheel...
ideas anyone?

RE: Return of Lunchbox..
Just to start I can begin to answer my own question. Blackfoot Extreme rear wheels are standard 2.2 size and are also 12mm hex Fronts are the usual 12mm hex freewheeling hubs so need to look into it further. Ordered a pair for the rear though
So next question is - what 2.2 tyres are good on Astro-turf but not tooooo grippy as I don't want to give it its wheelying ability back.

With the big pinion, the truck probably won't have enough torque to wheelie, no? ( since you can only run the silver can motor)

RE: Return of Lunchbox..
Ordered some tyres this morning - Schumacher Yellow Mini Spike Truck tyres - and some Proline foams just in case.
They sound similar in compound to the Ballistic Buggy tyres we use on our 1/10 buggies - so hopefully they will be suitable on the astro-turf.

RE: Return of Lunchbox..
Well I couldnt resist!
Brand new Madbull gearbox parts procured and last night I started the conversion process. Had to trim the original axle-rod location mounting brackets as the Madbull gearbox is slightly wider at the mounting end as well as at the axle end. Also need to find a different shock for the 3rd rear shock mod as even though Tamiya kindly provide a hole for it - its not quite big enough to cope with the M05 shock I am using. As I have plenty of Lunchbox spares I am going to ensure that I can swap between Madbull and original Lunchbox axles with little effort.
Pics to follow this evening!

RE: Return of Lunchbox..
Feels like I am talking to myself a bit here but oh well - its all here for posterity lol
Got a bit further with the Mad Bull conversion last night - had to trim a fair bit of the gearbox case to allow the 3rd shock to be positioned correctly - ran out of time but I have toyed with the idea of moving the top mounting point under the main bath tub area - not sure if it will stay there but I will see what happens when I have another go tonight! Will definitely need shorter shocks though to keep the Mad Bull gearbox tucked under the rear of the chassis as I don't want to end up with a 70s dragster look to the whole thing and I want to keep the COG as low as possible. its getting there though - I am racing it properly on Sunday for the first time so this better work!! lol

RE: Return of Lunchbox..
i shaved a few mm off of the rear arms to get the gearbox to fit, kept standard suspension on and moved the holes in the body to keep it looking standard

RE: Return of Lunchbox..
Yup I shaved the arms too - I have ended up leaving the shock in the position above - it works just fine - used DT02 front buggy shocks to keep the chassis level - had to make them as soft as possible but it seems to work just fine
The Schumacher Mini Spikes give awesome grip - it turns on a sixpence now - I have a 19t pinion just in case the speed isnt there but its going to be awesome on Sunday!

Racing didn't happen unfortunately as only 2 other vintage cars turned up - hopefully more will turn up to the next race on the 22nd September.
Fitted the largest pinion you can fit in the Mad Bull gearbox (19t) and the acceleration is now severely blunted - but I wanted to have the full range available. Last week I found on eBay an adjustable motor mount for the original Lunchbox gearbox so I may revert back to it - still lots of testing to do but the time is not always available!

Already broke the little coil wire and I've only run it 3 times!. Time for 5th shock mod.
I put my old CR-01 shocks with Junfac GMade black springs on for now. Cut a few coil off the front as the springs are for 90-100mm shocks.
First tried some CR-01 short barrel springs for laughs and they are way too soft and too short.
As you can see got some ball ends mounted to the top of the shock mounts in preparation of a strut tower brace as soon as I can get some threaded rod or a link the right length.
Junfac springs
Have some Yeah Racing 80mm shocks in bound. When they come in I'll swap them in and move one of the CR shocks to the 5th position.
