Check out this aftermarket suspension and wheel kit. You get a choice of either silver or gold wheels. Looks really nice! The gold wheels are on the bottom of the link:

Here's a video of my Hotshot on the beach with a 23T Tamiya SS motor. It needs a little more horsepower under the hood - I have a Novak Havoc sport system on the way. Next time I'll focus on the jumps more.

Nice little dune basher you have there. Should go really well with the Novak system in it. I'm itching to make a sand bashing video with a hi quality slow motion camera but they are very expensive so it's gonna have to wait.

Thanks. Yeah the Hotshot is pretty nice little old school buggy.

The video quality on your Boomerang video was very good, it would make a fine video in the sand!

Yeah I guess. I need to find some good dunes first though, the nearest would be in Wales which is 150 mls or so from where I live.[&o]

Is the suspension still very soft on these like the original?

My friend had one back in '86 and when you pushed it down it would not come back up.

I'm trying to decide between the Hotshot or Boomerang.

yeah the shocks are soft, that's because tamiya provide 'soft' oil in the kit. It's right what you are saying that they do not rebound fully, i suspect this is because the action is not as smooth as it could be because the shock bodies are plastic. The shocks on the hotshot are also plastic and they are only a mono type so IMO the Boomer suspension is the better of the two. However alloy shocks would be the best option.

Thanks,
How is the Boomerangs suspension,
does it rebound back nicely when pushed on?

The Boomer is better performer than the Hotshot as it's a more modern design. Does that help you any?

Why don't you check the facts before you post answers like that? The hotshot comes with alloy shocks and Tamiyas hardest damper oil!

Correct my mistake, they are alloy and come with a plastic type housing/end cap. From what I've read the rear mono setup on the HS is woefully over sprung though and has too many parts which tend to wear out and the whole cantilever system goes sloppy after a while. But it's certainly an interesting design that looks good

I'm leaning towards Boomerang,
better suspension & steering.

Maybe both

I think that the shot looks better, but the boomer would be the better performer probably. The real solution though is just to install the supershot type 4 shock suspension, with some more modern day alloy shocks although when you do this I guess you lose part of what makes the car so unique. I say install the stock stuff and run it till it gets sloppy and then upgrade

First I wanna say killer builds everyone. I really enjoy reading build threads like this one. Now, to my question. Does anyone here know if the red plastic parts in the kit are dyeable? Now that I am hooked on this buggy (thanks to this thread and the awsomely aggressive) I'm seriously contemplating a near future purchase. I wanted to give it a slightly unorthodox color scheme but the red would clash and I don't want to just paint the parts as the paint would probably chip, seeing as it'll be a regular runner. Any info would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks man. I've got two more Tamiya Original Hotshot builds to post. The Hotshot posted above was just too good for me to mess up. So I basically ran it for two or three times on a grassy lawn to check for basic functions and then put away in a storage box for about 18 years.

I must agree w/860Crawler. Outstanding!  Are there any Thorp diffs left out there or is it futile to continue searching?

Here's a Tamiya Hotshot Re-Release kit that's loaded with mods. This leaves me drooling! [X(]

This is the same dude that made that modified Tamiya Grasshopper re-release into a serious work of art!
